It seems to me the original demo and the released game had a few bugs
that were deal breakers for some. I got it after the first patch I
think so I never saw a single bug, through the single player campaign
or playing online.
Great game -- not a true RPG but over the top fun anyway. >> Stay informed about: Oblivion , Arx Fatalis, Ultima Underworld. |

Dark Messiah is Half Life 2 in a D&D world.
I'd suggest Gothic 2 (3?), maybe The Witcher, and if you're not a
graphics junkie Morrowind is an older game that some like better than
Oblivion (not me.) >> Stay informed about: Oblivion , Arx Fatalis, Ultima Underworld. |

Dark Messiah is more of combat game with RPG elements - not *really* like
the three
you mentioned. More fitting might be 'Gothic III' and 'Two Worlds' though I
advise picking them up
for a £10 each and no more as neither has the quality of Oblivion. Of course
the 'Shivering Isles'
expansion for Oblivion is a must. >> Stay informed about: Oblivion , Arx Fatalis, Ultima Underworld. |

Wasn't Dark Messiah made by the same folks that created Arx Fatalis? I
think pretty much all the games he mentioned are more on the side of
combat first, RPG second, so in that light Dark Messiah was the
closest one I could think of.
I haven't tried Gothic but I probably will. >> Stay informed about: Oblivion , Arx Fatalis, Ultima Underworld. |

Absolutely, Gothic 2 is just stunningly good. Get the texture pack
too.

It is definitely a surprisingly good game with a fantastic atmosphere.

As a big time LG fan who thinks that Underworld 1 is the best game
ever, I would also recommend Wizards & Warriors and Wizardy 8 (+ Might
& Magic 6 and 7). >> Stay informed about: Oblivion , Arx Fatalis, Ultima Underworld. |

to do too much and just never reaches its peak. But I recommend

Yes, that's why I said "in a D&D world." Dark Messiah is on rails,
which should completely remove it from the same category as Oblivion. >> Stay informed about: Oblivion , Arx Fatalis, Ultima Underworld. |

You're not missing much. It's just a combat game. I know Witcher isn't a
first person RPG, but I can tell you as someone who loved Oblivion, it's
damn near equal to it in story and atmosphere. I'd recommend the import
edition, unless you don't mind the censorship.
