Not a good sign when the editor of the Official Playstation Magazine
will not be buying a PS3, but will buy a 360..
http://opm.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=7344653&publicUserId=5380375#comments
Contrary to popular belief, editors of the Official PlayStation
Magazine don't get free hardware for their own personal use. So I've
been having an ongoing debate with myself about the PS3 since E3. After
Kaz announced that the price would be $600, I found my enthusiasm
sagging.
It's not that I find the concept of a $600 console insulting. Inflation
happens, and it's natural that eventually inital prices will be higher
than they used to be. But when I know that a console's direct
competitors cost two-thirds or half of that price, it becomes harder
for me to justify shelling out that kind of money--especially when I
can probably get the Wii and the 360 combined for the cost of a PS3.
$600 might be worth it if there were several huge titles on the near
horizon that were PS3-exclusive. But for the first year at least, there
are very few big titles that are PS3 exclusive. GTA4 and Assassins will
be available for the 360 at the same time. And most of the big
guns--FFXIII, MGS4--won't be hitting for quite some time after the
launch.
The other big reason for people to shell out $600, BluRay, is frankly
something I don't care about. I have a crummy 12-year-old 21-inch
very-non-hi-def TV sitting on my stand at home, and while we've been
talking about upgrading it for the past three years, we always end up
walking out of stores TV-less. And I don't buy movies; I rent non-BR
discs from Netflix. Much like I've never been an audiophile--as long as
I can hear it, I don't care if it's mono, stereo, 5.1, 7.1--I really
don't care how high-res the picture is. My bottom line is that as long
as it has color and is free from static, I'm good to go.
So ultimately, I can't justify it. $600 is a lot of money, especially
when I can get what--for me at least--will be a very similar experience
for $400. I would like to own a PS3, and I hope that the price drops
soon so I can consider it. But until then, this Official PlayStation
Magazine editor will have to join the dark side. >> Stay informed about: OPM editor doesn't even want a PS3 |

Technoslob. Everyone in America owns an HDTV, right? If you're saying
the only people who should own a PS3 owns an HDTV, you've cut out 90%
of the public. lol
If you read, the editor's CONSIDERED getting an HDTV, but doesn't think
it's worth it. >> Stay informed about: OPM editor doesn't even want a PS3 |

The editor of OPM plays/reviews games on a crummy 12 year old 21 inch
non high def TV?
And he wonders why some PS2 games don't look that great!

Is the Official Playstation Magazine connected with Sony? Or is it
independent? He will be getting a call from the president if OPM is
connected with Sony......

Oh, this one is a real laugh, it is so stupid. It is obvious this woman
doesn't even *PLAY* video games. Her previous blogs before this
/monumental/ha-ha one was about her vacation, what was happening on
Project Runway, and they get even more stupid the further you go back.
As for that article, look at these choice comments, "as long as
I can hear it, I don't care if it's mono, stereo, 5.1, 7.1", "as long
as it has color and is free from static, I'm good to go.", "I would
like to own a PS3". So, the xflop fanbitches are bleeting over this
woman because she doesn't play video games outside of work, doesn't
care about audio quality as long as she can hear it, and mysteriously
won't buy a xflop 3-shitty until November (why not now if it is such a
better deal?). Not even going to mention the 12-year old 21-inch SDTV
(probably only has RF input, that old). This is what xflop fanbitches
consider their new "heroine"? This article is on every xflop fanbitch
site now, so it must be so. Man, what a joke. Also, 1UP is up for sale
including EGM, OPM, OXM, CGW and they are going through re-organization
now. It wouldn't be much of a surprise to see some personnel suddenly
disappearing.

The same place that makes him think the 360 can't handle the Unreal 3
engine. >> Stay informed about: OPM editor doesn't even want a PS3 |

heh...I knew this would get bliggy smallz riled up Is it true that
there is a fire sale at 1up? I did not know that. It would be nice if
they got rid of those annoyingly obnoxious kids on the 1up podcast. I
always wondered what the staff in game mags make, obviously not too
much if the editor has a 12 year old TV... But regarding having
non-HDTV she represents the norm, since less than 20% of U$ households
have HDTV.

The magazine is licensed by Sony, but is editorially independent. So it's
unlikely that OPM's editor will be called on the carpet by Sony.

I'm just saying, if you are playing games on a CRUMMY 12-year-old
21-inch TV you have absolutely no say so as to which games look good
and which games do not. You don't need HD TV to get nice graphics out
of your console.

Again...there is no way this or any OPM employee is reviewing games at home.
That's exactly why they will have the nice office setup for the PS3 she
mentioned in her blog. These people don't sit at home to play games, they go
to their office and play games! >> Stay informed about: OPM editor doesn't even want a PS3 |
