Jason, I want to make sure I understand the way you're writing out your
rolls in the WGP thread, because I'm wondering if I'm misunderstanding
them.
When you write "Perception and Intelligence checks - vs Alertness: 7,
5, 5, 8, 7, 3"...are you doing a check against _Jack's_ Alertness? Or
are you trying to say "I'm rolling Greg's Perception + Alertness and
I'm also rolling his Intelligence + Alertness"?
I can't figure out what you're saying above about what your rolls mean.
Typically, what I've seen is this for contested rolls:
PLAYER 1: I want to overhear what Player 2 is saying on his cell
phone. My PER + Alertness pool is 4 dice. I roll 10, 8, 4, 2. That's
2 successes against base difficulty.
PLAYER 2: I don't want Player 1 to hear, so I lower my voice and turn
away from him as I talk. My MAN + Subterfuge pool is 3 dice. I roll
7, 7, and 9 . Three successes cancels out your two! Sorry, dude, you
hear nothing!
....and this for uncontested:
PLAYER 1: I'm trying to pick the lock on Player 2's hotel room door.
DEX + Streetwise pool is 7 dice. I roll 10, 1, 4, 1, 2, 8, 8 - that's
only one success if it's base difficulty. Did I open it?
PLAYER 2: Well, I didn't do anything extra to the lock, so it's not
pretty, but you managed to get it open.
I get the idea you're throwing several rolls at once, but I uncertain
as to exactly what dice pools are being used. Can you elucidate? >> Stay informed about: OOC: Writing down your rolls |

Okay, so just to make sure we're on the same page:
When you write:
>> ((OOC: Perception and Intelligence checks - vs Alertness: 7, 5, 5, 8,
>> 7, 3 - vs Awareness: 4, 6, 6, 3, 1, 6, 7 - vs Investigation: 4, 7, 4,
>> 4 - vs Mage Lore 5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 1..... email me anything you think I
>> would notice.))
....then I should read it as:
Perception + Alertness: 7, 5, 5, 8, 7, 3
Perception + Awareness: 4, 6, 6, 3, 1, 6, 7
Perception + Investigation: 4, 7, 4, 4
Perception + Mage Lore 5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 1
Is that right? I'm mainly confused as to where the Intelligence rolls
fits into your list above. >> Stay informed about: OOC: Writing down your rolls |

Ah. I will try to write them more clearly in the future, but for the
stuff I have written in-thread so far assume it is Gregory rolling his
dice pool not knowing what the target number is. Thus (for example)
Per + Alertness: 2, 9, 2, 6, 7, 8 - and Per + Awareness: 8, 10, 3, 2,
1, 1, 2 means he has just rolled against those two dice pools and
gotten those numbers as a result.
<<chuckles>>
This newsgroup is going to look odd to new arrivals. Just the two of
us back and forthing (and nothing is wrong with that!) all over the
place on subject matter.
Reminds me of some gaming nights to be honest. >> Stay informed about: OOC: Writing down your rolls |

That is correct. Since I am essentially rolling blind (having no idea
what info might be there) I am guessing those dice pools might apply.
The Int check might be against the Mage Lore to recognize a lapel pin
or some such spotted with the Alertness (this happened at least once
in game when I spotted a Void Engineer).
But essentially you are correct above. I will write more clearly in
future. >> Stay informed about: OOC: Writing down your rolls |
