My feelings exactly mate. I can't think of any other game that's given
me such value for money and enjoyment over such a long period of time. I
got my copy on the day of release, June 22nd 2001 here in the UK. Over
five years later it's still on my hard drive and I'm still playing it on
a regular basis. It's been a bit of Vietnam action with the VTE mod this
week. The "feel" you talk of is what does it, it may not be the
prettiest looking girl at the ball but there's still that something
about it. The vibrancy of the modding community is fantasic, it really
keeps things fresh and the talent out there with the likes of BAS, FDF,
CoC and Project UKF to name a few is amazing. I mean take CoC UA 1.1,
who would have thought five years ago that OFP would be capable of
simulating artillery of the scope of UA? Brilliant! I don't know the
full story behind the Codemasters/BI falling out but I'd agree that
Codemasters really screwed up there being left with the Flashpoint name
but quite frankly bugger all else.
If ArmA and OFP2 were never to see the light of day I'm sure I'd still
be playing OFP in another five years.
