I've downloaded and played a little of the Crysis single player demo
today. Wow! Absolutely stunning visuals, the most lifelike vegetation
I've yet seen in a game. Every leaf and blade of grass moves
realistically and can be chopped down with a good burst of gunfire. The
wildlife too is a sight to behold, I was two minutes into the demo and
stood on a beach with the surf breaking when movement caught my eye. I
turned for a closer look to see a whole load of crabs heading into the
water! Moving on towards the tree line I encountered a giant tortoise
who was none too keen on me getting close as he retreated into his
shell. In among the trees there were a ton of pheasent like birds
tear-arsing around the place. A fantastic engine it has to be said, I'd
love to see it translated away from the sci-fi and used for a
contemporary realistic military shooter or even a much needed good
quality Vietnam War scenario.
All I can say is that in five years time I really do wonder where the
offspring of OFP and ArmA are going to be in terms of visual realism if
this is what can be achieved here and now.
