Post subject: OFB - EVERYTHING breaks upon using it
Archived from groups: alt>games>the-sims-2 (more info?)

I spent a whole day making a huge shopping complex with resteraunt, shopping, bowling and
disco. The sort of complex that would fry a lesser system!
So imagine my dissapointment when I took my entrepeneuring young sim out of college to run his
first day of business and it all went wrong...

~admittedly I had used a few lil cheats here and there as well as intProp and boolProp~

Hired some staff, brought them in for assignments before opening, and wham - it hits me...
Every item that gets used breaks upon first use! Elevators, computers, DJ station...

Went searching google to see what could be wrong, and spent ages coming up with nothing.
Searched "Sims2 Everything Breaks"; "Sims2 Breaks Down" and got nowhere, seemed it wasn't a
popular problem.

Eventually I found the answer!

Apparently I must have triggered a 'Break Inducer' in the testingcheats... I didnt realise I
had done, so I felt a bit daft when all I had to do was go back in-game and spawn the 'break
inhibitor'...

That'll teach me to mess around with the cheat menu!

I had that problem in one of my lots - once I finally figured it out, I
posted my findings in this group. Here is the text of my original post was
outlines the problem and solution:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
A while ago, I posted a problem I was having with one house, where just
about every object in the house would break everytime it was used. I
finally found what the problem is and how to solve it. So, I'm posting this
in case anyone else has the same problem.

Problem: Several objects on a lot break after every use.

Affects: It mainly seems to affect electronic and plumbing objects, but it
puts the piano out of tune as well.

Cause: The "boolprop testingCheatsEnabled true" cheat. One of the options
allows you to spawn something called a "Break Inducer" which causes
breakable objects to break after use. This is a clear example of how
experimenting with this cheat can screw up your game.

How to reproduce problem:
1 -> ctrl-shift-c, enter "boolprop testingCheatsEnabled true"
2 -> shift-click on any Sim on the lot
3 -> click Spawn...
4 -> click Break Inducer

How to solve problem:
1 -> ctrl-shift-c, enter "boolprop testingCheatsEnabled true"
2 -> shift-click on any Sim on the lot
3 -> click Spawn...
4 -> click More...
5 -> click Break Suppressor
and optionally, you should turn the boolprop cheat back off. This is done
the same way as turning it on, just substitute "false" for "true"

I hope this helps anyone else with the same problem.

Thank you for this. It did happen in one house, with the piano and every
grandfather clock, dishwasher, and garburator. I have never used the bread
inducer, as far as I know, but accidents do happen.

I LOVE YOU!
Anyone who can make an innocent typo, and make me laugh so hard deserves as much!
Thank you for introducing me to such terms as 'Garburator' and 'Bread Inducer'.

(not poking fun at you for your typo, you DID give me a good laugh!)

Two broken (almost amputated) fingers on one hand, and a spell-checker that
thinks EVERYTHING is incorrect (because the Microsoft office 2007 Beta has
a frigging Spanish dictionary!) plus some Tylenol#3's will cause the odd
typo. I really do not know how to spell garburator, though. When I install
one into a Sim house, I don't bother looking at the spelling, although I
think they just call it a trash compactor. Anyone need a cup of kawphy?

Oh, my! That sounds incredibly painful. You poor thing! What did you
do?!? I do hope it heals completely. Sounds like that might be a problem
if it's all that bad.

I've never heard it called a garburator either. Good word, that.

And I ALWAYS need a cup of kawphy!

I broke the tops of the bones of the first (pointer) and second
(gyne-finger!) the day before Mother's Day. Some friends were over, helping
with my yard work. I was closing the multi-sectioned garage door, when it
came down a bit too fast. When it slammed down, I could not see any space
between the two door sections, so I thought that the fingers were severed,
and that the skin was stuck in the sections. My friend has a sister who is
hearing- and speech-impaired, and one of my sons was born deaf, so we both
know sigh language. I slapped her back, and when she turned around to face
me, I signed to her that the door had kidnapped my fingers. She immediately
grabbed the bottom of the door, flung it upward, and pulled my hand away.
Now we both know trucker talk, too. Her husband drove me to the hospital,
and then he and their daughter picked up my dog and babysat for me while his
wife sat at the hospital with me. Got real lucky there. Hurts like the
dickens now and then, and I am still waiting for the blackened nails to fall
off. One is quite loose, but the other is quite stubborn.
On another note, I am going to invent the kawphy intervenous, and keep it at
one steady temperature. Naw, I like the taste too much!

everything heals properly. What a thing to have happen!

I've had hand surgery several times (carpal tunnel and complications - once
on the left hand and four times on the right). It was all out-patient type
surgery and since it was non-emergency, I often got bumped to later in the
day than I was scheduled for. Once, I got there at 6am and wasn't taken in
for surgery until after 3pm. I had a caffiene headache from hell by the
time I got to the OR. The surgical nurse asked me the typical questions
while she was preparing me for the doctor, including whether I needed
anything. I said I'd sell my soul for a cup of strong coffee because of
that headache. She just smiled and winked, went to a cabinet and got a
small sack of clear liquid and attached it to my IV. Caffiene direct to the
bloodstream! Who knew they had such a thing?!? It was sheer heaven and the
headache went away almost immediately. I went under with a big smile on my
face that afternoon. LOL
