You could always head over to Dun morogh or elwyn forest and do the quests
there, but its a long trek and expect to die a lot getting there. (which is
just tie consuming, no big deal).

You' need to catch the boat to auberdeen, then another boat to menethil
harmor, then run east through the wetlands (dangerous) along the path till
you get to the tunnel (more danger), then up and through loch modan and
eventually turn east into dun morogh.

Make sure to get the griffon waypoints in auberdeen, menethil, lock modan
and ironforge and then you wont have to make the run again.

You don't always have to do quests, of course, you can just kill mobs
till you level. You can then do quests and/or grind out the levels.

Don't worry about it. At level 10 you will be able to get your pet and
after that a hunter is easy I am told

Just keep killing mobs that give you XP until you are strong enough to
tame your first pet.

If you need help taming a pet, perhaps you are lucky enough to find
another hunter with the same problem that you have nearby.

Don't forget to put your pet in the stables in Darnassus if you want
another one of about your level. Once you are 60, you can't tame level 6
beasts anymore. It would just take too long for them to also reach 60..

Just grind away killing any old green and above mob (preferably yellow) till
you get to level 10 and do your Hunter quests to get your pet. With your pet
it will all become easily.

I saw a similar problem. I've played toons through the early levels
in all of the various starting areas (both Alliance and Horde, mostly
to experience the content), and the NE start is easily the most
frustrating in terms of losing any flow of obvious/"easy" quests to
lead you by the hand through the early levels. With my NE druid I
ended up by making my way over to Ironforge and Stormwind, and doing
quests there until things picked up- but that's perhaps a bit extreme.
As other people have suggested, when all else fails, go out and find
an area rich in mobs that you can kill quickly (as high level as you
can manage) and just grind away at them until you level. Then try
that list of "hard" quests again.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I used a combination of killing
creatures and doing one last quest that got me to level 10.

Nice one. I don't think there's any "ding!" in the game which makes a
bigger difference to your power than a Hunter going from level 9 to 10.
