Thanks, Folk. You've set me on a quest, I think.
I just realized that if I want a new keyboard, I'm going to have to do some
research. I'll start here: That IBM M - How responsive are the keys and do
you have anything to compare the necessary pressure to depress the keys to?
- That sounds a little nuts, but I actually have a pretty good reason for
asking. I crushed my ulner nerve in my left elbow about a year ago and had
ulner nerve transposition surgery done last April. My pinky and ring finger
aren't 100% operational any more. The only way to describe it is that they
feel like they are asleep all the time ("pins and needles" I think is the
terminology I used as a kid) and they don't have a normal amount of
strength. My Microsoft Ergonomic is what I think you are calling a
"buckling spring" but it is well worn and no longer requires the pressure to
depress a key that it did when it was new. If it was as stiff as when it
was new, I probably wouldn't be able to use it very well.
I just spent a half hour reading about the Steel Series. That sounds like
it might be a good solution for me, but you're right about the price tag,
and a cursory inspection of my favorite online stores (i.e. newegg etc)
didn't turn up any G7's for sale and a universal "out of stock" notice
across the board for G6's. If I venture away from my normal online vendors,
I could probably find one I suppose, but I'd have to be extraordinarily
convinced it is worth it to do business with websites I'm unfamiliar with.
I've read a few things online about this keyboard

Stealth, but I'd sure like to get a comparison from someone who has actually
used one. The newegg reviews are a bit mixed and the guy that reviewed it
at overclockers club seems to have some legit gripes that I would probably
have about its "normal use" functionality.... and I've read a couple of
times that it seems to be missing a delete key. ctrl alt delete is a bit
difficult without a delete key. I'm gaming on windows, so that fact alone
means that I occasionally need to ctrl alt delete <grin>. I really need to
find out if it is actually missing a delete key or if it is just not in a
normal place. Soooo... anyone who happens across this thread who has any
experience in the matter, please chime in.
I'll take your advice this time on mousing surface. I just ordered that
razer copperhead and an icemat. - I really wish I had taken your advice
last time. My ratpadz is still on my desk but it wore out a long time ago
and it has eaten the rear feet off two or three mice in its short lifespan.
I loved it for maybe the first 90 days, but it wore out fast. Now, I'm
really looking forward to throwing it away.
