I got Combat Flight Sim 2 from Microsoft. It is a World War II theater
game.

I have a lot of problems flying. I can't control the plane. I end up
hitting the ground a lot.

Any advice for an aspiring pilot who is totally new to flight sims . .
..

First, if you're not using a joystick, you should be. If not, buy one.
Now! There really is no substitute, and even the cheapest is better than
nothing.

Next: be gentle. Small stick movements. Learn to feel the limits of the
aircraft, because it doesn't stay up in the air by magic, and those
little housefans on the front aren't very powerful once you start
yanking the nose all over the sky, losing speed and therefore lift over
the wings.

PS Aim for the light blue stuff. If you can see fish you're probably
heading the wrong way. Wink

As well as the other things, Make sure the flight model is set to basic
initially. As you improve you can add more difficulty/realism.
This will help to minimise your frustration as you gain familarity with
the game.
Good luck

Get a joystick.
Install it properly through the control panel.
Try holding it with your fingertips only at the start--little
adjustments.
Choose "No crashes' or "invulnerable" at the options.
Start in the air--the ground is farther off.
Practise spin recovery--once you can do that, you can do anything.
And if you've got CFS2, fly the Hellcat--it's your friend.

As another poster said, practice practice practice.

Flying real aircraft isn't pulling the stick as hard as you can and gunning
the throttle at maximum. It's understanding your flight enveleope, your best
performance at which speeds, angle of attack, altitude effects, prop speed
and pitch (if adjustable pitch), among many other things.

Combat Flight Sim 2 is a great game for novices to practice with. It has a
good combination of better than arcade flight models and fun gameplay.

Take your time, and make sure you use a decent twisting flight stick with
throttle. Otherwise you're as good as dead!
