Archived from groups: rec>games>int-fiction (more info?)

Hi all,

I have recently discovered IF, and have downloaded the Dreamhold.
Now I'm stuck and the hints provided in the game don't seem to
help me. I tried to find a walkthrough to help me go further but
couldn't find one, I guess I didn't look in the right places (I've
used google, searched the archives of this newsgroup and
looked in the solutions directory of the IF archives).

Does anyone know if there is a walkthrough available for this game,
and where I can find it?

Thanks,
chlorine.

Spoilers below, of course.

It was the very last command for one ending, "draw diagram".
For some reason I thought you had to draw it on paper and was
frustrated not to find any appropriate paper in the study.
The hint was to finish my work (or something like that) now
that I had the pen and the ink, and knew the diagram.
In my case it would have helped if it had told I had to go
into the cell to do that.

If I have a suggestion for a hypothetic next release, it's
to alter the scoring system: once you have 7 out of 7, you
can reach two endings, but it seems you are very far from
a third ending, if I judge by the number of objects I have
accumulated that are no use to the two endings I've seen.
I find this a little bit frustrating.
Maybe the scoring system could mention from the start
that there are extra points to be had, and say how much
you can get, like for the regular score?

Other than that, I've enjoyed the game, I'm going to try
to reach the third ending I've seen mentioned (hope I'm
not too spoiled now to enjoy it).

My intent was that the third ending would be entirely outside the
scoring system. It's there if you want to look for it, but new players
shouldn't be guided *towards* it: it contains all the difficult and
obscure stuff, and all the things that you might only discover by wild
experimentation. I want to reward wild experimentation, but I *don't*
want people to feel like it's "the real ending" and be frustrated that
they didn't get to it.

I'm not saying that I did this perfectly. Smile But I was hoping that the
extra objects would seem like rewards, rather than puzzles or red
herrings.

9/11 did change everything. Since 9/12, the biggest threat to American
society has been the American president. I'd call that a change.
