I've been running diagnostics and so have cable support tracert checked
ports modem interrogation etc . It seems the problem is varience in the
signal levels the difficulty being that the problem is not consistant that
and some very odd tracerts reading within the NTL system dodgy or
overloaded router.
The network setup is a legacy from NTL days when they would not support
more than one machine on a STB connection nor allow a router, so the
quick and dirty way was to have the most used machine as the gateway and
have the network run off that, we have had 4 machines running simultaneously
with no great problems. As we do not file share, these days most of the
bandwidth eating operations we run are net-radio and UT hardly a problem on
4 meg. Could be putting a router on the CM would be a good long term
solution I will have to check what VM are advising in that respect every
little helps .
The packet loss is unpredictable I could play a game and see <5% next game I
am a slide monkey and it spikes the thick end of 50% which is when I quit
rather than ruin the game for other players and get deeply annoyed at the
end sudden of my stress relief................
