I just installed the 2-disc 6 piece Nalimov tablebases to my hard drive
and linked the file to chessbase. However my Fritz 9 engine cannot
access them. Any ideas?

They are mostly worthless, but not entirely worthless. I once played
a test game between my old engine and Shredder 9, where Shredder ended
up on the stronger side of a KBNN (or perhaps KBBN, I don't recall
exactly) vs KR endgame. Shredder only managed a draw, but according
to the 6-men EGTBs the endgame was indeed won for the three minor
pieces with perfect play.

It could also be argued that 5-men EGTBs are also not worth a lot in
practical play. Compare the CEGT ratings of Fruit and List with and
without EGTBs, for instance.

Won without the fifty-move rule getting in the way?
