Post subject: NWN2 is good if not great, but there are some issues...
Archived from groups: alt>games>neverwinter-nights (more info?)

First, let me say, I'm playing it all the way through, and the graphics
alone create a much more realistic (less gamey) atmosphere. You can
remain high like a deity watching over your characters, or you mwheel
in and look over their shoulders at excellent graphical representations
of rooms, fires, caves, etc, thereby immersing yourself completely in
the game. This alone is worth the purchase.
But there are some issues, I think which deal mainly with just being
unpolished and rushed a tad.

1) Right clicking menus on objects was abandoned, why? You can't even
right click on a door and bash it or right click on a box and break it.
To break into something, you have set one of your NPCs to auto bash and
then try to open it. Then he'll smash it after you fail. Bashers and
lockpickers interfere with one another too..but that's minor. I should
just be able to bash myself.
2) Right clicking on yourself is also gone. Why...it was a nice
feature. Not good in combat or under pressure, but very nice.
3) Call Lightning and other spells are broken. They require a target,
but the target must be you. So, if you try and call it on a spot or an
enemy, it won't work. But then when you highlight yourself, it does
work, sending current to those around you. If the spell must be cast
like that, then why do I have to choose a target at all? A similar,
lower level druid/cleric fire based spell cast the same way (requiring
I select myself as the target), killed me on the spot. I have DnD
Hardcore rules enabled, but that's not how the hardcore rules work, I'm
sure. I have to select a target, but the target must be me, and then
when I cast it, it kills me. Um, ok!
4) Almost none of the doors along the way, houses and whatnot are
openable. It's as though you're in a cardboard town(s). I liked how the
majority of doors in various areas were openable in the first game.
Made the world seem complex. Now it feels very cardboardish. I'm in
highcliff, and can't enter a single establishment. Lame.
5) The warps are nice from a practical standpoint, but an actual real
life map where you go from one place to another logically, along a path
or road woulda been very nice. They could have added magic items or
teleporters seprately...but they just wanted to create different
distinct areas and they made a fast way to move around. It breaks the
feeling of reality--of continuity--even if it is convenient.

I am however, enjoying the game quite a bit. I just would have rather
they added all of their new stuff to the existing game rather than
taken things away, like right clicking and stuff, the fact that adding
a helmet to the dwarf I picked up doesn't change his appearance. He's
still bald headed, running beside me. In fact, none of my party's
characters' appearances change when I rearm them. The fact that I CAN
rearm them and take them to buy stuff is VERY NICE, but still....I'd
like to know that i put the right helmet on the guy just by looking him
over. I shouldn't need to look at his inventory.

And the spells are definitely broken in some sense...they rushed it a
bit. It probably needed another 2 months of playtesting and additional
work to be as polished as the original.
I'm going to fire up the old one (out of the box) which I haven't
played in a few years, and try it to see the difference in polish. I'm
pretty sure the original polish cannot be matched--particularly the
right clicking!--but I need to verify that.
