I can't begin to tell you how many times I've gotten (my pc) stuck in a
spot that it can't move away from. Is there a console command available
that would make a player character jump from one spot on the screen to
another nearby location? Anyone know what causes this problem in the
first place?
TIA!

Are you talking about getting near near/on a wall or something of that
sort? The only way I've been able to get out of that is to use the
stone of recall to teleport out then right back in. When you reappear,
you're no longer stuck. Of course, it sucks having to pay to use the
stone of recall because of a game glitch...9You'd thin that since you're
saving everyone's a** they'd at least let the stone useage be free!)

Quick save and then reload. I don't think I've ever had that fail.

Yes, unfortunately, I'd quick-saved *after* the lamentable situation
had arisen. I didn't realize at the time that my pc was stuck. No, I've
long since returned to a previous save (losing about an hour of game
time). No biggie in the long run, it's just that this situation happens
all the time, and I'm trying to find a better remedy! A resource with
an extended list of all console commands might be helpful, if someone
knew it's location!

After getting into the console command area the command is "dm_jumptopoint"
followed by x y coordinates, ie; dm_jumptopoint 20 80 or whatever numbers
you plug in. They represent the grid layout of the area. Hope this helps
you!

Thats exactly what I'm talking about. My character will "get out of
bounds" or something with an arm or leg caught in a wall or a foot in a
boulder... it's happened to me a jillion times. The pc can't move at
that point and sometimes moving sideways helps, sometimes not. I'm not
playing a module with a stone of recall, so that's out too. I'm just
wondering if there were a console command; something along the lines of
"dm_jumptopoint" or somesuch. I don't think the manual lists all
commands. Maybe there's a big list of all of them someplace?
Thanks for the replies!

The player command MAKESAFE looks like it might fit the bill too. I'll
have to try it sometime... Thanks again for the link, Mox.
makesafe (non-debug) (Back to Top)
Usage: makesafe
Description: This function will move the player to a safe location,
meaning a valid location in the area (ie. not in walls or on other
creatures).

DS,
How about this?
http://nwn.bioware.com/dms/commands.html
Open Debug Mode by typing.
DebugMode 1
dm_jumptopoint x y (area name)_area
Close Debug Mode by typing.
DebugMode 0
The x and y are 1 or 2 digit numbers on a x y axis. Example is 0 0 is the in
the lower left hand corner of the map. The (area name) can be a problem. It
will be whatever the module builder has chosen to list it. The only way I
know how to make sure how it is listed is by opening the saved game in the
DM Client part of the game and checking the area names under the Chooser.
Good Luck.

Mox and CelticMage,
Thank you both!
This is perhaps some of the most useful info that I've seen in a long
while. I'm sure this situation will pop up time and time again, and now
I don't need to swear quite so much when it does!

I tried that one while I was experimenting to answer your question. I could
not see that my character moved at all. of course I was not stuck when I
tried it. About a year ago I figured out the jumptopoint one, when a area
transition would not work in a custom mod and I got stuck in a cave.

Isn't it likely though that makesafe would only work when there are enemies
present? At least that's how I understand that command. If you're stuck,
you're not in any danger just frustrated. It is an annoying part of the
game the way your char can get stuck. I developed the habit when playing
NWN of having companions stand still (hold your ground) while I explored a
new area because they sometimes will block your character from escaping from
the stuckness.
Best wishes

A ha! So I'm not the only one who orders the henchmen to stay put. They
can block an exit ... and also go charging into combat while you're
trying to sneak in and scout. Brainless minions! :p
I've never used the command console except by accident. Very clever
having the 'console' key located right beside the 'reveal specials' key.
I've never had a character stuck in a wall or behind a rock either ...
and I play a lot of NwN. Maybe I'm just lucky.
