Particularly since this is after the collapse of HD-DVD. I guess
they'll have to figure out a new reason why Blu-Ray isn't selling.

I'm surprised the PS3 didn't sell better. Seriously, a fairly reliable
system that runs quiet, has free online, wireless built-in, a wireless
controller, Blu-Ray, a hard drive and is damn pretty and it can't beat a
system that has a reputation for exploding with no wireless that runs
like a vacuum cleaner, has no high-def playback built-in and an optional
hard drive... I guess the games really do the talking.

Yeah, strange how a console costing $150 less, with more than twice as
many games, that was 'suffering a shortage' for the first two months
of the year sells a massive 5,000 more units!

Sales of the Playstation 3 are still much higher now than they were
last year. Granted, much of that is due to the lower price rather than
Blu-Ray winning but the "death" of HD DVD certainly had to have some
sort of an impact since videophiles gained some measure of confidence
in purchasing a high-definition movie playback device. >> Stay informed about: NPD: 360 barely recovers after shortages, beats Ps3 by les.. |

Is it $150 less or $50 less?
When you fanboys are talking about how great a value the PS3 is, you
say it's only $50 more than the standard system and more than $50 less
than the Elite.
Suddenly, when you want to go into super fanboy mode, you refer to the
Arcade's cheaper price ($120 less actually).
You do realize that during the shortage, you were still able to find
Arcade systems, albeit in smaller quantities than in prior months. It
was the standard and Elite systems that were sold out almost
everywhere.
Many of the sold units this past month after the supply issues were
resolved are going to be standard and Elite systems so the "$120 less"
argument wouldn't apply, anyway (well, except if your core goal is to
be a fanboy). >> Stay informed about: NPD: 360 barely recovers after shortages, beats Ps3 by les.. |

Actually, the fall of HD-DVD is making it sell better. I mean, how the
hell can you argue with buying HD movies for 5$ for a player that now
costs about 50$ new?
There won't be any new content but the existing content on HD-DVD is
remarkably good. >> Stay informed about: NPD: 360 barely recovers after shortages, beats Ps3 by les.. |

That's still 5,000 more than Sony could manage.

Yeah, that's the point. Wouldn't you expect the PS3's hardware sales to
be skyrocketing since blu-ray is now the standard, making the PS3 the
cheapest and overall best HD video player on the market?
People accuse me of saying the PS3 has no games, which is why it wasn't
selling. It obviously DOES have games, even if its library is smaller
than the 360's due to the 360's head start. Even then, why isn't the PS3
selling better? It's got games - it's got GOOD games! It's a blu-ray
player! It's got better hardware reliability than the (older model) 360!
So...where are the sales?
If the release of MGS4, and the MGS4 PS3 pack don't cause a sizable jump
in PS3 sales later this month, then there's something wrong.

It sells every time there is a game released that people want. That is the
same as the Wii and/or 360. Hi-def DVD's are not even close to the norm yet
so I don't know why you would think sales would "skyrocket". The PS3
probably makes up more than 50% of all Blu-Ray sales combined. The fact of
the matter is, the console with the best games this year will reign supreme. >> Stay informed about: NPD: 360 barely recovers after shortages, beats Ps3 by les.. |
