N64 emulator for PAL UK xbox for Super Mario 64 which is b..

I've got surreal 64 from an emulator collection I've downloaded. I have
it in its own folder on the Xbox's hard drive e:\emulators\surreal64.
As instructed I've put the super mario rom in e:\roms. When I start
sureal64 from the xbmc dash I get the initial interface screen come up
for sureal64 but the xbox controller won't move the cursor or anything.
It appears to be frozen. What could be wrong please? I can't see mario
64 mentioned on the screen either. I have a cheapmod modded xbox from
afew years ago. It shouldn't require an executor 3 with a more modern
bios or something?

Should just be a simple case of trying a different version of the emulator
or rom til you get something that works. N64 emulation isnt fantasticly
stable.
