I bought Myst Revelation DVD Rom version yesterday. Its a used copy so
was quite cheap. It even includes Myst Exile which I already have but
thats ok.The game runs ok with a little hesitation from when pointing to
where I am going, probably because of large amounts of data being
transferred at times. I went to Options menu to turn on subtitles as I
like to have text in games, and it says "Dutch subtitles only" Why would
subtitles be in Dutch, when everything else is in English, like the
manual and speech and me Smile Also, the X to put in the box to turn them
on, doesn't do anything anyway. First time I've ever bought a game for
North American market with Dutch subtitles before. Can anyone with this
game confirm that this is the case?

I read your review and and see that yours said Dutch subtitles as well.
Seems like they made a mistake by putting Dutch as a choice which wasn't
available anyway. They screwed that up.
In Myst exile, they had subtitle choices for English, Spanish, and I
think French and Deutsch. But as you said, even though they said Dutch
subtitles which would have been no good to me, it didn't work anyway.
Your review is well done and you seem to have mixed opinions about the
game, but that can happen. I notice you mention about Safedisk. I am
using Win 2000 to play the game because I have a dual boot with it and
win 98SE and Win 2000 had more space. I have a new 160G drive which I
bought a few months ago, but never got around to transferring the files
over that I want. Win 2K is similar to Win XP and I have Safedisk. In
your review, you mention " Expand Non-Lug and Play Drivers" and I was
thinking what the heck is "Non-Lug" and since the lug part had a capital
L, I was thinking it must be some setting in Win 2K that I don't know
about since I am not entirely familiar with Win 2K. haha.
They call the safedisk driver secdriv. How did you know that was
Safedisk? In Win 2K, don't know about Win XP, it looks like you can
disable or enable secdriv in Properties under Non plus and play drivers.
Maybe I can disable it? Can you disable Secdrv in Win XP?
Thanks for your information. I really liked Myst Exile, like yourself.
Thats why I got this one at EB in used games area, though not many games
there. I doubt it will be as good as Myst Exile, but it was quite cheap,
and don't have anything else to play, so will have to see.

Haha, now I said "Non plus" above instead of Non plug - get that right
yet.

I've heard of plug and play of course, but haven't seen expand non plug
and play drivers, since that entry is not in win 98SE.
The funny thing was, I pointed out your missing letter, then typed the
wrong letter myself.

Thats a good way to find things.

Well, I guess I'm stuck with it till I play it, but I will know how to
get rid of it when I finish and have to hope I have no problems in the
meantime. I have a Cruzer mini USB flash drive plugged in, though I only
have jpgs stored on it. Wasn't that what you had a problem with before?

If you are really worried about subtitles, you can download a patch from the
Ubisoft Support site which will give you a selection of languages. It fixes
one or two other problems as well. You need the latest patch which takes the
game to v1.03

I can do without subtitles but I like to have them. Its usually wise to
check to see if there is a patch before you play a game. Thanks Nick
I'll check it out..

Hi Barbara, (waving from sunny Toronto - 70F today on my balcony)
well.... Your English is fine, but my Dutch isn't. Smile Nick has told me
there is a patch for the game which allows you a choice of languages.
They must have left this out of the original game. Did you play this
game? how did you like it? I liked Myst Exile, but don't know about
Revelation yet. And of course, I will definitely need a walkthrough,
which is nothing new, but Myst games are more difficult than most games
for me- in any language. :Smile

In Microsoft's WinXP [at least the Home Ed. Bundle] for some reason
Macrovision's SafeDisc (SecDrv) comes force-installed with the OS. But,
for what it is worth, in the Device Manager, SecDrv, Properties, Driver
Tab, you can set the drivers Startup Type to 'Demand' instead of
'Automatic' ( or 'Boot' or whatever the default setting is ) and a game
that requires it will load it when needed so it won't be loaded all the
time. If you don't have any SafeDisc-malware-dependent software
installed you can try setting the startup type to 'Disabled' if you
want. (Peoples mileage may vary, on my WinXP system SecDrv works in the
'Demand' configuration.)

Nah-ah. I'm staying out of this. ... Now, here's my opinion.

I might have known you would have a few games stashed away Smile. I always
play mine when I get them. I have some I get bored with though, and
never finished. In the 90's, I used to play every game I bought, but now
there are more games I don't like than there used to be.
