When I got to the final lever and pulled it, my screen went pitch
black, and music played dramtically. I got the distinct impression
that I was missing some sort of text description of what I am to look
forward to now that I've finished the demo. If I click a few times,
I'm returned to the main menu (Load/Save/New/Options/etc. screen).
Anyone care to fill me in on what I'm missing? Weird glitch, since
everything else seemed to work perfectly.
Impressions: Interface took a little getting used to, but once I
figured out that Right-click was used to exit closeup views, and
allowed me to access the little items at the bottom of the screen, I
was happy.
By the way, I recently stumbled across a brass plaque with a quote
from the first Myst game. The necklace seems to store and play back
memories and/or thoughts at certain key points in the area. Did anyone
notice that when you open the swinging door on the desk, it allows you
to press a button (though I haven't figured out what the button DOES)?
It's easy to push the puzzle buttons too many times, and get yourself
into a situation where it's MUCH easier to reset and try again.
Based on this demo and the preview movie from E3, I've got two main
thoughts on this new game:
1. I'm willing to accept that Cirrus and Achenar are actually alive
and wreaking some sort of havoc. It's disappointing that the Miller
brothers aren't reprising the roles themselves, though.
2. As cool as dinosaurs are to my nephews... I'm not certain their
inclusion in this game is really necessary for me to buy it.
I love the games for the puzzles, the beautiful landscapes and props,
and trying to decipher a story by reading and examining everything I
can find. Maybe they're trying to re-broaden their audience back to
the range of the first game. URU's online failure might be a sign
that the fanbase is getting too small and seemingly impentrable to
newcomers.
