Morrowind was just added to the Xbox 360 backward compatibility list, for
better or for worse. I spent some time playing it this weekend, just for
comparison's sake. The usual backward compatibility problems are present,
which means that the game plays slower and at a lower framerate than on
the original Xbox. Also, there are quite a few graphical glitches and a
couple of quests that look like they're broken just at first glance.
For anybody else who's played it this way, have you noticed any game
features that are noticably different? I observed the stilt striders
rocking and swaying, which I recall was a function that was removed from
the core game (but is easily activated via the console or with a custom
ESP file.) I'm pretty sure that the PC version has that turned off, but
I'm not sure what they elected to do on the Xbox. If this turns out to be
another bug, then I'm inclined to wonder if there's an issue with the way
the emulated code is handling those types of flags. Could make for some
interesting weather, or for massively unfair combat.

I say the only smart thing to do is play the game on the orig. Xbox...PS2 is
the only truly backwards copatable master! PS3, I hear, isn't do so hot in
that market, so...I say just play the games you have on the original console
they came from, that way there are no glitches. >> Stay informed about: Morrowind on Xbox 360 |

I say this as a guy who spends most of his gaming time on consoles...
Morrowind is probably best enjoyed on the PC. That way, the glitches are
entirely unpredictable.
Seriously, there's a fading hope that the Xbox 360 will be able to replace
the original Xbox rather than just supplement it. As it stands, to play
all the games I own for the Microsoft platform requires two pieces of
hardware instead of just one. I would like to be able to play the whole
Xbox library on the 360, but for now I'm content to have an academic
interest in the glitches. If the 360 does inadvertently open up features
that Bethesda locked away in the original release, that's probably worth
at least 10 hours of exploring amusement right there.

Completely agree with you there...especially with all the extra features it
comes with as far as the construction set and all the plug ins you can get
from all over the place online.

I think I have started to figure out why the backwards-compatability idea is
really starting to fade...think about Xbox live and all the new downloadable
features on the PS3; I think it is going to come down to"if you want to play
older games, you are going to have to download them-screw you and your
yerning for backwards-compatability!" hahaha, atleast that's how I see
it....
