I'm working on parsing the data and putting it into a database... no
other programs required than the one I'm writing. I've got it importing
data properly from several neighborhoods. Next I'll have to build a
form to display the data. But I think I'm going to go sit in the sun
for a while first. It's too nice to be indoors right now!

No, ambitious would be if I tried going into the package files directly
to get the data. With the text file generated by SimPE, all the hard
work is already done.

It's working to the extent that I can import the text data into an
Access database, and on a computer without Access, scroll through all
the Sims, and have it show me Name, Household, Life Stage, Days Left in
Age, Gender, Zodiac Sign, and Aspiration. Just have to add more boxes
for the rest of the data. And a search function. And a print function.
And figure out a bazillion other things, too, like what some of the
data actually means!

Enough for today, I think. Maybe in a week or so (there's this pesky
thing called "work" coming up that I have to go do), I'll be looking for
some guinea pigs to try this out.

LOL, I didn't know guinea pigs made noises!

Thanks for the offer... I'll let you know when it's ready for testing.

What about OpenOffice? That's free and has all the components to it that
Microsoft Office Suite has. It will open those documents.

No it wasn't Access, it was something else. My memory is saying Filemaker
was in the name but I'll have to check. I've got to fire up the old
computer today to get the rest of the stuff off it and I'll check. The old
computer is going to its new home today.

Best wishes

Mine usually go to a deserving grandchild....I think, though, that this
next time I might keep this one and network it to the new one if that's
possible and use it for storage...

I had a guinea pig when I was a child, a very ordinary brown smooth haired
one, who acted more like a dog really. She was house trained, and you could
let her fre in the garden if you were there, she liked to be with us. Sadly
she died, possibly because she didn't know why we had disappeared and
frettted too much, while we were on holiday. Anyway, she communicated by
squeaking in various tones. It was fascinating.
