Could someone please tell me what Monique's computer does? And is it OK
to download this latest version if the last expansion pack I have is
Seasons, or should I find an earlier version? Thanks. >> Stay informed about: Monique's computer updated |

There are a lot of options. It lets you study for badges (like fishing,
gardening, flower arranging, etc.) or skill points (body, logic,
creativity, etc.) You can write articles that get you money and skill
points, or set it to "auto-write" and your sims or their guests will
write articles for you automatically.
The things I like best are "auto move in to college", where if a Sim has
a "go to college" want the day before it transitions from teen to adult,
it automatically moves to the college bin. You can have it set aside
money for your kid's college fund that gains interest, and have them
automatically go to private school if you can afford it.
You can shop online, for groceries, clothes, electronics.
And probably some other stuff I can't think of right now.
You do need to get the right version for the Sims game you are using.
Look at MTS2 (www.modthesims2.com) for the older ones.

One little thing I really like is that you can shop for instant groceries.
No more dancing around with the delivery man. You can also choose any
career track without haviing to wait forever for the right job to come up.

I found I hit a place just playing Pleasantview last time where I hadn't
lost anyone, but I needed to go round all the houses working out who was
where with whom and how old they were.

Too bad the Simd2DB is no more; it was perfect for keeping track of all
your sims, until it was no longer updated to work with newer versions of
the game and SimPE. And I've never heard of anyone else doing anything
similar either. IMO there's a big need for a program like that, especially
with those of us that like large neighborhoods.

Yeah I guess she changed that around after so many people complained - I
certainly did. However, I can't say I missed it once I took it out. I had
it mostly for the loan system but I do that manually now and don't lose
track.
Best wishes

Ah, yes, well, ahem - can you spell obsessive-compulsive? I play in strict
rotation with the whole neighbourhood in synch. Sad really.

I dunno. I wish I could be more organized with how I play my game.
Everything is so haphazard, from what order I play the families in to
how I build my houses. Must be a side effect from how structured things
have to be in my job if they're going to work right... when I play Sims,
it's total chaos!

I downloaded that and took a look earlier... how much information did it
put in for you, and how much did you have to do on your own? Looks like
it just read a text file created by SimPE.

It did quite a lot, especially at first when inputing all that data for an
existing neighborhood would have been a real pain and very time consuming.
I couldn't tell you if the file was text or not, but it did read in a file
created by SimPE, which included (IIRC) everyone in the neighborhood, NPC
or user created. Family trees were intact, all details about a particular
sim were there. It was very good. Too bad whoever coded it didn't see fit
to release the code under GPL or something so work could have been
continued on it. Oh well...

Thanks for the info. Looks like somebody put a whole lot of work into
that program. Like you said, too bad they didn't release the source code.
Hmmm... I don't see family tree info in the file SimPE created. I did
find a way to get relationship points to other Sims, but not by creating
the file the way the Sims2DB instructions said to.
I can see Sim name, household name, skills, interests, personality,
career and school info, age, gender, and a few other things... basically
the fields that Sims2DB pulls in using "SimPE Importer", plus some extra
info about Pets and vacations.
I'm going to see what I can do to get the SimPE exported info into a
usable format. Thinking it would be nice if I could have the computer
print out some data for my notebook instead of me writing it all down.

Sims2DB was made with some programme I've forgotten the name of - ummm, I'll
have to look it up. Basically it was a database programme but the programme
itself is not free - you have to buy it. That's why the guy who made
Sims2DB didn't release the code - it wasn't his to release. You can
actually import the SimPE file into Excel and, if I was cleverer with Excel,
I could probably set that up to display the information in a useful way but
I am too busy. I did think about updating Sims2DB for myself but when I
found out about the programme and having to buy it, I gave up.
Best wishes

Did he by any chance use Access for the database? That is the most
popular one out there and isn't too difficult to fool around with.
Problem is, it is not a program most people would have unless theyw ere
in business or data collection of some sort. The payroll program I used
when I worked was Access based as were the HR file databases. It's
mostly a bunch of tedious date entry to set it up. >> Stay informed about: Monique's computer updated |
