Idea's for model - Hi all, I'm painting a Grail Knight and would like some input. First, I don't game and I'm not worried about the model looking uniform as if it were in a unit. Right now, I have the horse landing on it's front feet with the rear legs extended in hopes..

Magnetic paint um..[model] or [paint] - I picked up a can of Krylong magnetic paint, not actually magnetic, but is the kind of paint that pagnets can stick to. I'm thinking of sticking neodynium magnets on my bases, and spraying this stuff on movement trays. Also, I think it'd be good to use it

[model]Rare Earth Magnet - I was wondering if anyone could direct me to a good site for these and recommend a size to use on 28mm sized models. the 40K miniature range. Thanks in advance for any help.

[model] [paint] Hobby Progress? - July was another slow month. I spent a couple days my storage cases, so more minis cased and fewer loose. My main current project is to finish my Assault Marines. From a base of 15 built and painted, I've finished building 6,..

[Model] Favorite Metallic Paints? - So over the last year or so I've been gradually replacing my old paints with Vallejo paints, which I love, but I've been hanging onto and nursing along my old pots of GW metallic because I still like them. But I just can't stand the terrible GW paint.

Hey,

This is a new technique to me, so I thought I'd share:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=112647

(Dipping plastic bits into heated salt to change poses, etc.)

A little bit of dynamism goes a long way!

Thanks for the tip, though it does look to be a bit of trouble... a 75
Watt Light Bulb can pretty much do the same thing. You just have to
watch the plastic part close and make sure it doesn't touch.

Great tip Myr. When I finally build that necron army (hahahaha) I'll
be able to build the coveted limbo master!

Hot / boiling water also has the same effect, with it generally
being a bit easier to control the amount of heat needed to bend the part
without melting or otherwise distorting it. It's the method I use when
I need to fix resin parts on model kits.

Another handy tip is if you're going to bend hot plastic or resin
and you don't want to use your fingers - wrap the ends of a pair of
needle-nose pliers with 6 to 12 layers of masking tap. Then you can
grasp and bend plastic without scaring it from the metal teeth on the
pliers.

I liked that one's hand is only near the heat source for two seconds
-
One second putting the bit into the salt and one to remove it.
Hot lamps and boiling water seem less 'handy' by contrast.

> > watch the plastic part close and make sure it doesn't touch

The salt granules suspend the bit from the bottom of the tin.
This seems much preferable to your hand doing so.

The soft plastic tubing available at hardware stores works well.
Inquire about their stock of "fuel line" and buy a foot or so.
It can be trimmed to exact length, and is easily removable.

I use hot water.
Boil kettle, pour into beaker or pyrex bowl.
Dip part in, shake water off.
Try garden gloves rather than pliers.

I dunno about salt.
You can't get water so hot that it'll damage the plastic - it boils at 100
deg c.
Salt, my concern would be that you could misjudge the temperature and pit
the surface with the grains or melt it rather more than you intended.

Ahh.... them were the days.
I recall forming plasticard.
You need a frame to hold the sheet and a formerto push through.
Balsa or regular wood was what everyone used to use.
Heat the sheet over an iron or electric plate...
Fairly simple shapes only of course but that's how you made stuff like
rounded tank turrets before all the after market add on companies.
Way back when Airfix was the big player, every boy bought kits off them and
of course the airfix magazine.
Recently in receivership for the second time.
Hornby bought them this time round.
Back in the 1980s even - who'd have thought humbrol and airfix would
possibly go into the red.

Especially when you then get to apply an actual blow-torch to your tender
top to finish the job...

Putting the 'pyro' back in RGMW!

Sorry, trying to eat big mozarella cheese sticks and maranera sauce
can be messy sometimes.
