My MC speaks Spanish to me, however I do not speak Spanish. I have
tried setting the language but this has no effect. It seems that none
of the dip switches have any effect. Is there anything I could check?

If You are not married or currently involved with anybody I suggest You
look online for a local matchmaking service and find a spanish speaking
person who also likes to play video games - invite them over for some
Missile Command doubles and have them translate and teach You Spanish
at the same time...

The DIP switch at R10 controls the language (number switches 1 and 2); if
none of the numbered switches at that location are working (you can check
this during self-test), than it's likely that the 74LS244 buffer chip at
location P10 has quit working. Replacing that should cure the problem.

I agree.

Leave it on Spanish and you'll pick up a few words. You can start
off some interesting discussion by dropping newly learned phrases by the
local Hispanic residents instead of the same-old, same-old 'hola' and
'como estas?'.

Seriously, I do this all the time at the ATM.

I know how to seleccione, ingrese, espere, and toma my recibos,
cuenta, and my tarjeta.
I also know the difference between una cuenta de ahorros and una
cuenta de cheques.
