Enigma Berries came from the R/S Battle Cards, pissed that the cards for
the other games did not come to the US. they were fun additions.

damn, can't find the scan card, but

I had half-days in my school at the age of three, although it was little
more than a nursery that just happened to serve as an introduction to the
school - we didn't really interact with the other kids, with separate play
times and even a separate toilet.

Agreed. Feebas was always ludicrouly rare, and having been through the
fiasco of finding one once in this lifetime, I'm more than happy to leech
off others' work and pass on the rejects.

I can't remember how I felt about them at the time. I think I was quite
harsh with most second-generation Pokémon that weren't Girafarig or Gligar
to begin with. I quickly grew to like them all, but it was strange, being
the first ever batch of monsters that were added later. But by now, I think
it's clear that Sentret is far superior to Rattata.

They'd definitely been released by 2001, since I created my PokéWars!
character in May of that year, and he's from Johto. In fact, I'm pretty
sure they'd just been released a month or so previously, so with a six-month
wait between the US and the UK ... assuming Canada shared its release date
with the US, it'd be October 2000.

Hang on, mind explaining this further? Does burying spheres increase the
odds of Evolution Stones appearing?

Yeah, I'm still raising my Ambipom team. Two are in the 40s now.

I got one quite early, actually - around :L13 or so - but it was my only one
to date.

> And I need more. I just might end up raising up

I did consider that - after all, it must be Pachirisu's only purpose in
life - but then I thought, Ambipom has four arms. That's bound to improve
its success rate!

Wow, you're telling me! I'm so glad berries are easier to grow in this
generation.

I just stole an Oval Stone from a wild Chansey (that makes 2 of them)
with a Skitty with Covet (while trying for Snubbull, today's Swarm).
I was beginning to think that the move was broken or something. I
guess all those Magnamite really didn't have Metal Coats.

Bad luck has a way of making you suspect the strangest things. Searching
for a Dragon Scale on Bagon back in RS made me think Covet had only a 50%
chance of stealing the item or something, but I'm pretty sure it does work.

Oh, and the Munchlax you gave me finally evolved!

I never caught the GSC 'mon in FL or Emerald either - I just got the ones I
needed from Colosseum, and bred or traded them all. So there's probably a
wild Entei still on the loose in LeafGreen somewhere.

So ... if I want lots of dig spots near my secret base, all I have to do is
bury spheres there?

Yeah, I've got that, but it seems to classify spheres as treasure as well,
which is pretty annoying.

I don't care much for, but my girlfriend's secret base is right next to
mine, so I'll be stealing the flag a fair few times before the next games
come along.

> Cute. I like Pach though.

Fair enough, then. I'm no great fan of any cute Electric type with circles
on its cheeks, and I don't much like real-life squirrels either, so
Pachirisu has a tough time trying to grow on me.

My first Ambipom (with Technician) was female, so I bred three more, and
they all happened to have Pick Up.

Ah, right, that device that'd unlock the final Trainer's Eyes trainer, add a
star to your Trainer Card, and *didn't come out in the UK*. I hate them
all.

Yeah, I noticed that. I started burying my excess spheres near my base
whenever I ran out of space in my bag. Now whenever I go down there, I find
dig spots up to yin-yang! I'm also quickly running out of room for
spheres...

As I understand it, the red, green and blue ones gro faster and only
go up to 99, then they disappear (I think, they aren't where I put
them anyway). The Prism and Pale grow slower so it takes longer for
them to escape.

Yeah, that's what I do, except I only combine spheres under ten. You don't
get their combined values when you do that (i.e. Blue 10 and Blue 10 don't
make Blue 20), and they don't average, either (i.e. Blue 8 and Blue 2 don't
make Blue 5). I wonder what that formula is...

Also worth noting is the combined burying trick - if you bury two spheres of
the same colour next to each other, the one you bury second will be absorbed
into the first. As such, if you have a bunch of spheres of the same colour,
bury the largest one first.

That's interesting. The guide I read claimed that it wasn't worth combining
spheres of such a low level, but I've been doing so too, and with a fair
amount of success. Probably because I leave them long enough to increase in
size rapidly.

Good question. The two points you make are, I think, the best argument for
starting with the biggest. I wonder whether they do something funky like
add on the average. Probably worth experimenting, though since even
standalone spheres grow a certain amount, it'd take a while to hammer out
the values.

The formula I saw on GameFAQs* said the largest sphere counts for its full
size, and every other sphere is divided by 5, rounded down, and increased by
1. So I think Blue 10 x2 becomes:

10 + ((10/5) + 1) = 10 + (2 + 1) = 13

And Blue 8 + Blue 2 is:

8 + ((2/5) + 1) = 8 + (0 + 1) = 9

There were also some glitches/exceptions mentioned, along the lines of "if
you bury multiples of the smallest size, only one counts" or "try not to
bury the largest one last".

* Well, *a* formula. One guide says it's the first one you put in that
counts for full.

I think I remember that. That was really a hacked Telefang game, right? I
think I remember hearing about that game lately, too. Like it was coming
