Six million, in the first year, is more consoles - faster - than any
other game console in history.

By comparison, at this point in the PS2 lifespan they had only moved 5
million units and reached 6.5 million only after the Thanksgiving rush.

By the end of the year the 360 should be pushing 8.5 million.

Well, we'll see how well Wii and PS3 sell in the first year out. PS3 will
definitely have supply issues, and Wii probably as well. I don't think
you'll see as many people jumping the bandwagon so quickly this time around.

Considering that the holiday shopping season is just around the corner,
Microsoft still can easily sell around 10 million consoles total (worldwide)
by years end. Having reached 6 million so far is in line with that goal.

Also, lets not forget that 6 million represent up to Sept 30. Thus M$
still has 1.5 months to sell 360s until PS3 is launched.

True. I also think M$ may be intentionally scaling back shipments now
and make big shipments around peak sales periods such as Black Friday
(day after thanxgiving) and weeks before the "holidays". They want to
really capitalize on PS3 shortages. You know that PS3 will sell out on
11/17 and it may take a few days for Wii to sale out. Thus both will be
sold out by Black Friday and M$ wants to seize that opportunity. Recall
how supposedly held back U$ shipments last year to take advantage of
the main shopping days.
