Can you play two toons from your account at same time? - If I have two can i play two of my at same time? (from same account) Thanks.

Is it ok to start/play toons in areas other then where you.. - Would there be any problems leveling your character in areas other than where you were born? I have a NightElv Druid and have never been fond of night elf areas...I prefer Wetlands, The only thing that might come back to bite..

I used to think I have no "main". I started with a warrior and a
hunter. I then rolled a priest to lend my wife and friends some
support as they climbed through WoW. All 3 are 70 now.

The hunter was always the leader, she would lead the way running
through areas and farming for items, epic mount gold, primals, etc.
The priest was the main dungeon runner. The tank was ahead at first
but then he got to a point where he just kind of hung out.

I rolled a mage to fill in the spaces and a shaman to dot the i's and
cross the t's. They are lower and lend support to my wife's lower
toons.

I have a low paladin who I play with my 7 year old son's shadow
priest.

I had always considered all my characters to be my "mains". Now my
priest is in Gruul's Lair and SSC and farms Kara, ores and primal
earths and bombs in Skettis. My hunter is a bomber in Skettis. My
warrior bombs in Skettis and farms rare herbs for pots for all my
toons and transmutes Primal Earth to Primal Water for the family bank
account.

So without having a say in the matter my priest has literally become
my "main". I'm not complaining. It just sort of happened by default.
Things changed. My hunter is not the main farmer any more. It seems
like each toon farms for an equal amount of cash etc and my banker/
AHer gets fed items by all three to build the family funding.

There is no way I can farm as much as I used to but still it seems
that I can always farm enough so I truly feel bad for those who are
raiding full time and they pray for a day off where they can farm some
mats or gold. Sometimes I do feel burnt out from raiding and there are
nights where I have to help my 7 year son with his homework and might
get on late and miss a raid for that might but my guild does not bust
my balls about it and I then have a relaxing evening of questing or
farming and someone else gets to go on the raid and have some
excitement.

I am lucky I get time before work each morning to run three toons
through Skettis bombing with an average of 1 or 2 escorts a day thrown
in and pick up ore and motes of earth and flowers during the course of
the journey. An ocassional heroic gets thrown in each week every so
often and these days a heroic is a "casual" visit to a dungeon.

I am fortunate I actually get to play my lower level toons with my 7
year old son's toons and my wife's. My wife gets to join me on raids
sometimes and sometimes I get time off from raids to relax in the
World of Wow with my wife. I tanked her though the Sons of Gruul
quests the other day.

I am one of the most luckiest men on the face of this earth. There are
probably men who would literally sell their soul for some of the
things I am lucky enough to have and can do.

This game is so huge, there is so much one can do to have fun in it. I
used to play softball 6 days a week, 240 games a year and now I am so
immersed in the game of WoW like I was with softball. I played on many
good teams, won many championships and now I am playing in great raids
and feel like champions are here also.

Life's a Beach!

OH! OH! OH!

Yeah, once you start raiding you kinda have to pick a main. Raiding
requires that toons have gear, and as I'm sure you've noticed it takes
a lot of work and time to really gear out a toon for maximum
performance. I personally can only make that commitment to one char
(my mage - also have a druid and a hunter). I run the other toons in
heroics and Kara and such, so they're pretty decently geared, but they
don't have EVERY piece of gear enchanted. Some of the stuff that is
'chanted isn't the best I could get for that slot. Some of their gems
are green quality. The hunter even has ~3 pieces of green gear.
Their rep isn't maxed out (so for instance, my hunter can't use any of
the high-quality arrows available with rep). They don't carry in the
same level of consumables. It's just too much work to keep all of
them maintained at proper raiding level. You just end up having to
choose one and go for it, unless you're satisfied with none of them
being truly great, or unless you just have tons of time to farm stuff
for all of them.

As to farming, I hear you there. I have very little time for it. I
generally transmute every day with my druid, and every 4 days my mage
will make spellcloth and sell it. My priest makes shadowcloth as well
which will eventually turn into a revenue stream but for now she needs
it for a frozen shadowweave set. Overall by doing those I net ~20 to
25g per day with simple "quick" money making options. That's usually
enough to pay for my raiding activities but every now and then I just
have to bite the bullet and go out herbing or mining and grab a few
hundred gold to hold me over.

Occasionally I'll run the daily heroic which, with a good group, will
normally net a small profit. It has the potential to be a big loss
though if the group is bad and I have a big repair bill.

It's not just raiding, unfortunately, but also PVP. The gear gap in
both activities reaches out and increases litterally every day. I
estimate that between a guy who dinged level 70 a minute ago, and a
guy who is raiding Tier-5 dungeons and doing Tier 5 arenas, the latter
is roughly 5 times as powerful in all aspects of his class than the
former. Such a disparity in powers is ridiculous, it's a side-effect
of the monty haul factor that is TBC. Remember when the devs
mentionned that the only thing that will distinguish hardcore players
from casuals would be a cool shiny visual effect on their gear? We're
way past that now.

Anyway when it comes to raiding, pvp, and alts, it's something I had a
lot of problems accepting, and after three years, ended up refusing
completely. Between the three activities, I choosed to level up my
alts. Farming is no more than a sick joke from the past to me now.
Every single thing I do, every single item that drops yields progress
one way or another, and I feel no longer this urge to go out of my way
to farm money or whatever. I realized it after buying my first epic
flyer - money is better spent on respecs, new gear or trade skills for
the alts. Better spent on instant gratification instead of convenience
for characters I'm not playing that much anyway.

It's more relaxing. It's more fun, and I totally buy the prospect of
starting out the next expansion with a wide array of character choices
instead of being pigeonholed into using one, only one and absolutely
one on release day. The way things are looking, when WotLK completes
its installation on my computer, I'll have a deep long look at the
character selection screen:

_a 375 mining/375 engineering level 70 priest
_a 375 blacksmith/375 engineering level 70 warrior
_a 375 skinning/375 herbalism level 70 hunter
_a 375 mining/375 herbalism level 70 rogue
....and hopefully more on the way!

_a 375 jewelcrafting/375 tailor level 70 mage (looking good atm, 57.5,
and trades are flirting with the 350s already)
_a 385 enchanting/??? level 70 paladin (if I don't get bored with the
class, currently 43)
_a 375 herbalism/375 alchemy level 70 shaman (I really should get her
going, 31)

....or even start out as Death Knight.

That's the kind of things that make me tick. Compared to Orion, I'm at
the other side of the spectrum Wink

I hear you about starting 'fresh in the next expansion, but to a large
degree, you can do that with any level 70 toon. If you want to raid/
pvp with any of them you are going to have to level to 70 and gear the
toon out completely anew anyways, so it's a perfect opportunity to
change mains. I can honestly say that I may well change over to my
priest (shadow) as my main when WoTLK hits. She'll be 70 within 2
weeks so I'll not have to level any further. There is just WAY to
much time/gold sank into the mage though to really switch mains over
right now, so I'm just waiting. It's really pretty easy to level alts
if you just want to level. Getting progressively faster too. The
mage too 14 days (/played time) just to hit 60. The druid hit 60 in
just 12 days and was at 70 in around 17 or so. The hunter hit 70 in
12 days. The priest is looking like she'll hit 70 in under 9 days. I
THINK I can bring the warlock up to 70 in under 7 days.

Well, my point is that if you're really in the same mood as I am, then
there's no real need for a "main". Each character is a facet of your
game experience, just pick the one you want to progress with. Seen as
there will be two level 70 starting zones in Northrend and two entry-
level instance hubs, I'll most probably be able to play and discover
stuff the way I want. I'll probably pick the mage to tag along with my
friends (ex-guildmates) in early instance runs while I still can, pug
stuff with the healer and the tank, quest with the hunter in one zone,
and quest in the other with the rogue. It's just one of many
possibilities Smile

That said, 7 days /played, if you're playing a character 1h/day on
average with days on and days off, you're still looking at the
prospect of having the character reach 70 in late june/early july if
you're starting him right now. Scary, uh? Razz

In all relativity, the levelling speed is not exact science. My
fastest leveller so far is and has always been my hunter, but well I
hardly ever played with her in outlands and spent much more time
setting myself challenges, such as soloing UBRS, or doing only certain
types of quests for vanity purposes, than actually levelling or
gearing up. To be honest I didn't notice when I reached 70 on her.
Similarly, my shaman is, relatively speaking, the fastest leveller (xp/
time played ratio), but eh, I created the character in feb. 2005, and
she's still only... level 31!
