Most of you probably already know, but my reviews have beein going up over
the course of the competition at:

http://www.intfiction.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=32

I'll be posting them "officially" to http://www.sidneymerk.com/ but I'm only
half-done with formatting and it's well after midnight here. Work tomorrow =
sleep now. So I'll finish getting them formatted and posted tomorrow. Maybe
tomorrow evening.

My guess is Lost Pig to win, An Act of Murder 2nd, and Lord Bellwater's
Secret 3rd. That's not exactly how I've ranked them, but that's what I'm
predicting of the results. I've got Lost Pig 1st, Across the Stars 2nd, Lord
Bellwater's Secret 3rd, and An Act of Murder 4th.

Here's my complete list, favorite to least-favorite, for the 27 eligible
entries. The # / # shows my actual vote first, and my review score (which
factors in my revised opinion after playing the game more than two hours,
where applicable) second.

#1 - 9 / 10 Lost Pig
#2 - 9 / 9+ Across The Stars
#3 - 9 / 9 Lord Bellwater's Secret
#4 - 8 / 9- An Act of Murder
#5 - 9 / 8+ My Mind's Mishmash
#6 - 8 / 8+ Orevore Courier
#7 - 8 / 8 Deadline Enchanter
#8 - 8 / 8 A Matter of Importance
#9 - 8 / 8- In The Mind Of The Master
#10 - 9 / 7+ The Chinese Room
#11 - 7 / 7+ Ferrous Ring
#12 - 8 / 7+ Varkana
#13 - 7 / 7 Slap that Fish
#14 - 7 / 7 My Name is Jack Mills
#15 - 7 / 7- A Fine Day for Reaping
#16 - 7 / 7- Fox, Fowl and Feed
#17 - 7 / 7- Wish
#18 - 6 / 6+ Jealousy Duel X
#19 - 5 / 5+ The Lost Dimension
#20 - 5 / 5 Gathered In Darkness
#21 - 5 / 5- Packrat
#22 - 6 / 5- Beneath: a Transformation
#23 - 4 / 4+ Reconciling Mother
#24 - 4 / 4+ The Immortal
#25 - 4 / 4 Press [Escape] to Save
#26 - 3 / 3+ Eduard the Seminarist
#27 - 3 / 3- Ghost of the Fireflies

Also, I have posted a walkthrough for Slap That Fish (239-point of a
possible 240) here:

For some reason your reviews are probably the most engrossing ones I've
found so far. Good work!

I also learned a trick or two and next year I'll take notes on a
transcript as well.

Thanks!

When I read back through them, though, I sometimes wonder how I can *be* so
long-winded.

Oh yeah, it's handy. I've even gotten to where if there is something I
definitely want to comment about in a review, I'll start the comment with
"for review - " and then make a note to myself. Other notes, I make for the
authors. And from time to time I check the clock and note the time so later
I can figure out how much time I spent playing (and so maybe the authors can
tell how long I spent stuck in certain areas). I feel like I'm
tightrope-walking without a safety net when I'm playing a game that doesn't
*support* transcripts.

Time. That's another thing for me to remeber for next year. Maybe I
should go back and play all the games from last years comp in 6 weeks
with 2h limit as well. Hmmm....

BTW, don't transcripting come with the game "out of the box" if you use
Inform/TADS? Or was there the Panks game you were thinking of?

"Transcript" or "transcript on" works for Inform games, Tads, and Hugo. Alan
too, I think. In Adrift, it's from the "file" menu (but in GLK versions you
can use "glk script on" or something to that effect).

I was indeed thinking about the Windows-only games. I found a way to
transcript *one* of Paul's entries, but it required some serious
hoop-jumping. In the other, and in Jealousy Duel X and The Lost Dimension, I
just had to open Notepad and make comments that (unfortunately) couldn't be
placed into the context of the game's output. But even that's better than
nothing.

Lucky me who lacking a Windows installation could ignore them! Smile

Talking about Paul, I wonder if I was the only one who in public admit to
enjoy his "Adventure XT"? Maybe I just have an odd taste.
