Post subject: Mapping TBC instance names from english to german
Archived from groups: alt>games>warcraft (more info?)

I am playing on a german speaking server using the german client with the
english language pack installed. This means, that all my NPC text is in
english (which makes using thottbot and all those other sites - including
this newsgroup - much easier than it was before) but all the player chat is
in german.

Occasionally this leads to problems, my latest trouble was when asked by
some guildies to join them for my first ever TBC instance run and I did not
know which part of hellfire citadel they were referring to. Not a big issue,
one of them explained to me which entrance to take, but it caused a few
moments of confusiong.

Now I was wondering: Is there a site somewhere that maps the TBC instance
names in english to their german counterparts? Or is anyone in a.g.w
proficient enough in both versions of the game to post such a list?

That would be great.

On a related note, the only quest I could come up with for Hellfire Ramparts
was the one given at the keep in honour hold. Am I missing some? Where can I
get them? Is there a page listing which quests exist for which instance?
Somehow, thottbot wasn't much help.

Any help much appreciated.

Incidently, 3 or 4 trash mob groups into the instance our whole server group
crashed and didn't come back online for more than an hour when I gave up, so
I still can't claim to have done any TBC instances Smile

Cheers

I know it does this for items but wasn't aware of it doing it for instance
names as well. besides, I would need to look up every instance singly. I had
hoped for some kind of "assembled list" that saves me the work Smile

Anyway, thanks for your hint, I might check it out tonight.

Cheers

I don't know if this helps.
There is an Ace2 library (Babble) that has translations for all sorts
of things in WoW.

http://www.wowace.com/files/Babble-2.2/Babble-2.2-r28604.zip

Look in the Babble-Zone folder, and load the Babble-Zone-2.2.lua file into
a text editor. Search for the German section.

You'll see entries like:
["Shadow Labyrinth"] = "Schattenlabyrinth",
["Sethekk Halls"] = "Sethekkhallen",
["Hellfire Peninsula"] = "H\195\182llenfeuerhalbinsel",
["The Dark Portal"] = "Das Dunkle Portal",
["Hellfire Ramparts"] = "H\195\182llenfeuerbollwerk",

Accented characters are represented by numeric sequences, e.g the \195\182 in
the samples above represnt an o with umlaut. See halfway down this page:
http://www.wowwiki.com/HOWTO:_Localize_an_AddOn
for a list of the numeric codes and what characters they represent.
A bit of search-and-replace in your favourite text editor should get you
a pretty decent looking translation list.
