I picked up a can of Krylong magnetic paint, not actually magnetic, but
is the kind of paint that pagnets can stick to. I'm thinking of
sticking neodynium magnets on my bases, and spraying this stuff on
movement trays. Also, I think it'd be good to use it asa primer for
terrain so there's less chance of minis falling and would allow more
realistic hills etc.

Alternatively, I also have some magnetic paper from another project,
and was thinking I could quickly upgrade my existing minis by masking
the bases and spraying this stuff on the bases, and using the magnetic
paper on the movement trays.

Anybody tried this stuff yet? I'll post my results (when I get a round
tuit).

Seems like you'd need to spray on a heavy coat to get magnets to stick well.
Let us know how it works out.

And as long as we're talking about magnets,

I wonder about the wear characteristics of the stuff. Part of me thinks
it'd wear off, onto the magnets themselves, and would be a royal pain to
clean up.

Pence are ferrous?

The only reason I'd use the rare earth mags on the bases is because
they're very small but powerful so would kill four birds with one stone
(ballast, fit into small area, mag stick, simple spray-on ferrous paint
on trays). However, as someone mentioned I wonder how long the paint
would last...it is Krylon though so I expect it's pretty tough.

One would pretty much have to do this for slotta-based figs. Also, I
know someone sells thin machined plates for this very purpose.

I use mag basing extensively and have for years.
I think it works better if the base is metal and the movement tray has mag
sheet on it.
Also gives the base a bit more weight which I like for plastics.
My new wood elf infantry eg are based on uk 1p coins which are 20mil
diameter.
2p are 25mil.

I used to get steel sheet cut up into squares ( or rectangles for cav ) then
stick this to the base of slotta bases.
That way I had to file down the edges so it wouldn't scratch anything though
so I only still use this for compatibility.
