I use mag basing extensively and have for years.
I think it works better if the base is metal and the movement tray has mag
sheet on it.
Also gives the base a bit more weight which I like for plastics.
My new wood elf infantry eg are based on uk 1p coins which are 20mil
diameter.
2p are 25mil.
I used to get steel sheet cut up into squares ( or rectangles for cav ) then
stick this to the base of slotta bases.
That way I had to file down the edges so it wouldn't scratch anything though
so I only still use this for compatibility.
