Mafia - stuck on service station

I am stuck on the service station mission, where you and paulie have to
kill those thugs. I have killed everyone I can find and can not figure
out how to move one/complete the mission.

What I have done:
1) Killed the first guy paulie engages after saying the salieri sends
his regards.
2) Killed the 2 guys the area just the right of that (the one where one
of the guys is trying to pry open a door)
3) continued down the alley and killed 2 more guys, while we will
killing them, 2 more showed up, and we killed them.

so far we have killed 7 guys.

now all i see are those two bystanders (one of them which rants and
thanks you for doing something)

where do i go from here?
