Post subject: Madden Football 2005 problem with game running too fast
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>games>sports (more info?)

About a year ago, I use to play Madden 2005 on my AMD 2800 with ATI 9800 Pro
just fine. Last month I got a new AMD 64 3700 with GeForce 7800 GT.
Tonight I installed, patched, and played it. But now the game runs too
fast. It truly is football on steriods. By too fast, its like the game
is running 2x faster than normal speed. I tried changing every option in
the game.

A search on EA Sports web sites for Madden Football 2005 has a "game speed"
posting, but the answer is for the user to unplug their laptop from the AC
outlet and use the battery. The other option is to update hardware
drivers.

I checked and my drivers (video, audio, mb, ...) are up to date. Anyone
else seen an issue with this game running too fast on their pc?

I had this problem if I resumed from a game I saved just before a
kickoff/punt.
If you save a game to play later, play the kick first, then save.

It seems to be an issue with nVidia, since the game plays/resumes ok on
my laptop with an ATI X700, but has this acceleration pb on my desktop
with a TI4600.

I found my problem. Under Windows Power Management, I had it set to "min
power". This makes the AMD 2ghz cpu shift down to a lower speed to
conserve on power with not much going on. And this is what messed up the
game when it would launch. The Madden Football startup would see a 1ghz cpu
and set the game speed accordingly; yet the cpu would kick into hi-gear
during the actual game.

By turning Windows Power Management off, the game now runs at the correct
speed. Although at my age (49), I'd like to see a slider for "game speed"
for most games. My eye-hand isn't what it use to be.

For some games, like Doom3, there's a console command setting to adj the
game speed. I wonder if there's anything like this for Madden?

Well, yes, there are several sliders in Madden 2k5.

Type "realistic sliders madden 2005" in Google.

There's a slider in Madden 2005 that will slow the "speed of the game" down?
I've already adj the Human & A/I sliders, but I'll double check the
sliders/controls in the game. Hopefully there's something in the game
that will adj the game speed so I have a little more time to think,
reaction, and adjust.

EA's website and support is useless. Madden 2006 does the same thing.
I contacted EA by phone and the guy told me he would send me a link to
a patch and also instructions on modifying my registry. I had him
read back my e-mail address and I never received anything.

I must have thrown out the game because I was so mad. I can't find it
now. Shows how much hope I have for EA. I don't know why I keep
buying Madden because there is always some major problem. Never
again!

The problem you are having is most likely due to a Dual-Core processor
issue and it can't be fixed w/o a patch from EA.

Actually someone else in the thread posted a solution, which worked for
me as well when I was having a similar problem. The solution involved
the power settings.

Thanks. I'll wait for a patch or just not play the game instead.

You are talking about Madden 2005 and not the latest version (2006)
right? I would guess that they've already completed all the patches
they're going to do for last year's game...

There's no reason to wait for a patch that probably isn't coming and isn't
needed. Every time that I go to play Madden 2005, I simply go into the
Windows Power Management and turn it off. Madden 2005 is a blast to play.

BTW Anyone know if this same issue (minor) applies to Madden 2006?

Oops. The same problem happens with Madden 2006.

Too bad the problem doesn't work that other way around. That is, the game
speed would be slower. Now that would be cool.

Had the very same problem with Madden 08. Someone mentioned that it was a dual core issue. To fix this open taskmanager with the first menu for the game running and in the processes tab of the task manager fide the executable, I think it is madden08.exe or something simular. Right click the name and select "Set Afinity" then un check one of the CPU's. This worked great for me!

I had similar problems when i got FIFA 2008 for my PC..Installed the game in two computers of different configuration....Found that the speed of the game was different in both the PC....According to the shop owner, it was due to the config of my system...Probably, its the same for you....I might be wrong though as in your case its a laptop... Sad
