Hello,
I've encountered a crashing problem with BGII that's preventing the game
from continuing in Chapter 2. I'm trying to get my party to rest, as
they're all fatigued, and apparently it's time for a cut-scene during
resting (the last cut-scene was the one where Irenicus tells the
protagonist that accepting the gifts that are offered would end
suffering, allow to destroy powerful beings, etc.). I don't recall what
scene is supposed to come up, but when I choose to rest, whether in an
inn or elsewhere, the resting starts, the screen fades to black, and I
hear the protagonist being injured (like what we hear at the beginning
of the game). The screen comes up that says "Loading Area," and then the
game crashes.
Sometimes the crash is followed by a dialog box that asks me if I want
to restart the program, report the error on-line, or cancel, so I cancel
it. Restarting the program, or the computer, doesn't help, and the crash
happens no matter where the party is on the map.
Can anyone help me to solve this? Do I need to reinstall the game? I saw
something on MacPlay's Web site about reinstalling SoA, but not the
patch, and then ToB and the latest ToB patch, then running the game as
normal. If I have to do this, I'll need to know if I should back up any
files.
I've installed many mods to the game, but so far they've all worked
properly, and haven't caused any obvious problems with the game.
Thanks,

Most of those folks are still active at www.pocketplane.net, if the OP
wants to try the forums there.

It sounds like a corrupt game file. try clearing the cache directory
so that the game reloads everything from the cd/dvd. If you have done
a ful install this may not work of course as the area file may be
corrupt from when it was installed to your hard drive. If thats the
case you may need to copy over the relevant area file again.
Finding out which area file it is may be tricky of course. There used
to be loads of folk on here that could probably tell you from memory
which one it is lol

I've cleared the contents of the data directory inside the cache
directory, as I've read that this can help such a crashing problem, but
I get the same result when clicking on the Rest button in-game. As for
identifying which file begins to load when the crash occurs, I don't
know how to determine that, but I'm pretty sure it's a cut-scene dream
sequence, as I mentioned, and not just the resting scene.

What mods are installed? shorter cutscenes?
IIRC There is a short movie at this point it's probably that movie that
has a problem.
There is a mac bgii forum currently located here.
http://loriel.byethost18.com/forums/
they may have more mac specific help. >> Stay informed about: [Mac OS X 10.4.10] BGII - SoA/ToB crashes to desktop |

I don't have any mods that affect cutscenes, AFAIK. I have Amber, Auren,
Azure, BTL, Fade, Imoen Romance, Kivan, MoinesseAvatars, Saerileth,
Sheena, Solaufien, and SPStuff installed. OK, I guess I didn't install
RE yet, after all. Solaufien was the first mod I ever installed. I
reinstalled Kivan and Auren because Kivan wasn't delivering his dialog
after installing BTL, and both have worked perfectly since.
I began getting this crash after installing Azure, Saerileth, Sheena,
and SPStuff, so I suspect SPStuff may be the culprit. I haven't
encountered any of these three NPCs in-game yet.
I've copied the game's crash log and the console log, in case anyone
would like to examine either or both. The contents of the logs are
beyond my comprehension.
Thanks,

Just a little correction here: the sound effect I hear when the party
goes to rest is an electric zap sound (best way I can describe it). When
the "Loading Area" screen appears, the game crashes before it can show
any amount of progress (both halves of the progress bar/circle are
empty).
I hope someone can help me to solve this issue
Happy gaming,

Imoen romance does add some cutscenes in the area of the ch2-3 dreams,
don't remember exactly where though. They were dreams about your and
hers past.
what is SPStuff?
Do you normally pick up all these NPC's in a game? >> Stay informed about: [Mac OS X 10.4.10] BGII - SoA/ToB crashes to desktop |

SPStuff is Sorcerer's Place Collection, containing kits and an item pack
of six items.
I was unaware of the added cutscenes, but Imoen is of course in
Spellhold at this point in the game.
A strange thing about the Imoen mod: since I installed that, I notice
that, in Irenicus' dungeon at the very beginning of the game, a second
Imoen character (I suppose the one supplied by the mod) is present in
the room with the golem, where the party first equips with gear. The
first time I played and found this, I dismissed the first Imoen and
added the second to my party. In the current game, though, I ignored
this second Imoen and carried on with the first one. But, I digress
As for the party, I always keep a full roster, but this is the first
time I've accepted more than one mod character. This game is a
multiplayer game that I'm doing by myself, with two characters imported
from character files (as well as the protagonist, all of which began in
BG1 - ToSC), the two mod characters, and Viconia (unaltered).
I'll admit I may have gone overboard in installing so many mods, rather
than doing one at a time and testing them.
Thanks,
