Well, after some practice, I've finally gotten my hobbit minstrel (Fredegast
on the Arkenstone server) to be able to play "Free Bird" (as well as the
opening notes to Ode to Joy, among others). The game is really rough on the
fast guitar riffs, though. (sigh)

Now, when someone yells "Free Bird!", I play it. It will sound far, far
better, of course, when sustained chords are implemented in the next patch.

Next, I'm going to learn to play "Stairway to Heaven".

By the way, I do not use a macro or a bot. Everything is free hand. That's
the first question people ask when I'm playing. >Smile

That's actually kind of impressive.

Congratulations! One of the few players worth listening to, then.

See, now, no offense, but this is just one more step toward the sort
of thing that turns me off to a MMORPG. I love the idea of the music
system - I just don't like the idea of players bringing popular songs
into the game (of course there is no way to have one without the
other). I feel the same way about anything that doesn't really belong
in the setting - break dancing emotes, chatter about who won the
latest sporting events, etc.

I just prefer that a game adhere more closely to the fantasy setting.
My 2cp.

You can get onto a roleplaying server, join a rping kinship/guild & only
associate with ppl who adhere to your lofty standards. You can also ignore
OOC or Trade type channels & play the game the way you want to. Having real
ppl with real lives inhabit a living, breathing world alongside you is a
small price to pay imo. You can always be a hermit in an offline solo crpg.

No need to get snippy.

In an effort to keep things civil, I started off stating that I meant
no offense. I know, saying "no offense" doesn't give one the right to
say anything they want that may be offensive, but show me where I
crossed that line - unless you consider differing views offensive,
that is.

Secondly, my "standards" are by no means "lofty". I merely prefer that
games (MMORPG's in particular) provide a certain level of immersion.
The sort of "features" we're discussing here just run counter to that,
IMO.

> Having real
> ppl with real lives inhabit a living, breathing world alongside you is a

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you just
misunderstood what I was saying, rather than are trying to put words
in my mouth. I *love* the idea of MMORPG's - worlds made up of real
people. I just prefer a scenario where there aren't so many
opportunities for it to be reduced to little more than a glorified
chat room.

> You can always be a hermit in an offline solo crpg.

Sure, but why? Again, whoever said they didn't like playing a game
that involved other real life players? Wasn't me.

Well, that wouldn't really be an acceptable solution, as I would still
love to hear people who play the music of the realm.

You can completely disable player music if you don't want to hear it.

So, would the various Middle Earth related Blind Guardian songs be
acceptable to you?

I can understand that I guess.
Lord knows kiddie chatter has made some games pretty un-immersive.

I guess I shouldn't ask if anyone wants to hear me play "Smelly Cat."

And whats wrong with bustin' out some old school moves when I stone-cold
clothesline some sucker MCs? FYI, I bought a Run DMC album from Best
Buy at the same time I bought my Collector's Edition LOTRO. What's
wrong with wanting to hang my dwarf in a buffalo stance or have him show
his foes what Hammertime is all about? Seriously, he's just being
helpful advising monsters that they can't touch this.

I guess it's ok to turn Legolas into a skater (like the movies did), but
he shouldn't actually listen to skate punk music? Next think you know,
Loremasters will start playing Wagner (I love the smell of a Fireball in
the morning).

Anyway, I (sincerely) hope you find a group that meets your standards.
It should be easy -- they'll be the ones in the mall dressed as elves
when it's not Christmas.

You really can't imagine a song that would be more appropriate in a
high-fantasy setting than the immensely popular Stairway to Heaven?

What's this?! Considerate of the opinions of others? Objective attempt
at coming up with a reasonable solution, regardless of their own views
on the matter? All without so much as striking a match??

Elmer, you obviously have a complete disregard for what too many
promote as the conventional protocol for this newsgroup, and I find
that quite refreshing. Thanks for the suggestion. Smile

Wow. That's some funny stuff. No, really. A real gut-buster. I
especially liked the way you claimed sincerity only to follow it up
with yet another wisecrack. Pure genius.
