Losing at Fishing/Why there are no Holidays [AC:WW/Month 2]

NO SPOILERS YET IF YOU PLAY THIS GAME

So, today was the--make it *a*--fishing contest...I started early and
won a decent prize (melon chair)...Then remembered how in GC you had to
start late, and show up at the last minute with a couple monsters.
Well, I snagged two tuna, but they are worth 14K and I'm not wasting
them to figure out if they can beat 104 inches (experiences on Gamefaqs
say NO).

Eh, I'll just stock up on the big fish till the next contest and win it
then.

SPOILERS START NOW

In the meantime, I finished my 728K loan last night, and I'm now on my
848K one. The fishing thing encouraged me to knock it down to 750K or
so, which is good. I now have (almost) as much space in my house to
store all the "overnight" fish catch that I might desire. (For nights
when I can't or won't sleep.)

Redd ripped me off on another painting last week--I still have only one
legit one. Try again tomorrow. Snowman worked out for me 2/1 times. I
have only four items to go. Looks like I'll do it by February. No dung
beetles yet, though--at least not any that I have a chance to catch.
Saharah finally came by for the first time last week. I cleverly forgot
that more than on villager can see her, but at least I have one rare
wall.

I've been sending letters out to everyone, on a massive basis, and
discovered that Nook shuts off your catalog when you do this. I have
some idea, but still am not totally sure why.

NOW ON HOLIDAYS:

I've seen four of them so far--the two New Year's events, a La-Di-Day,
and a Fishing Contest. *Obviously* these are _nowhere_ near the size
and "pagentry" of the old ones. I think I now have an answer.

The DS version of AC is sinmply too small. The village is smaller, the
number of villagers is smaller, the places in the village are fewer.
There simply isn't enough room for all the old characters and events.
I've decided it's not a PC thing, not even a budgetary/localization
thing...It's just that the DS simply *cannot* support the kind of
memory/processing required for the old GC holidays. End of story.

I'm no longer complaining, then. There's so much that the DS can do
that they upgraded that I love this game more than the GS. Better
dialog, more items, more fish and better fishing, more bugs,
better...everything.

Better everything except the holidays. But I can live with that now,
seeing how I've learned and accepted the certain limitations that the
DS imposes. Anyway, no more kvetching about holidays from me. For a
while, anyway.

Besides, AC:Revolution will be coming out around the same time we get
tired of WW, anyway.
