Archived from groups: alt>games>mame (more info?)

HI there, I am configuring my system to run X-Mame. All is working
well (sound etc working), apart from the following:

1) When I terminate X-Mame with ESC or CTRL-C, the screen is black and
I have to reset the machine to restore it. I have put a wrapper script
around xmame.svgalib that does a savetextmode and textmode (and even a
restorepalette), but it makes no odds. Shouldn't X-Mame restore the
graphics upon terminaton?

2) I don't seem to be able to set the resolution for it to use - is
that done via modeline config in vgalib.config? Not such a problem at
the moment as I am using a CRT, but I will be using a flat panel
monitor soon.

3) I cannot get my USB PS2 joystick to work. Actually this is a Linux
problem as jstest shows that it knows all about the joystick but no
events occur when i press buttons etc. This isn't so much of a problem
as I will soon be using proper arcade controls via an I-PAC
(www.ultimarc.com), and the controls will appear as keycodes via USB.

My system:

Linux 2.6.16.5 on Debian Etch.
SIS 661FX integrated graphics - Linux framebuffer support all working
and SVGALib configured to use chipset SIS. No modelines set, but the
framebuffer device seems to be able to read monitor caps without
problem.
X-Mame 0.104
SVGALib 1.4.3-22

Any help would be most appreciated!

Cheers,
Andy

Update on 1) I fixed this by using the Linux framebuffer device and
calling fbset in my wrapper script, so that's sorted.

Anyone got any thoughts on the other issues?

Andy

you mean the resolution per game setting?
~/.xmamerc should have the settings if thats what you are looking for.

I wanted a way of overriding xmame.svgalib's method of automatically
selecting the best resolution for each game. While this automatic
selection is just fine on a CRT monitor, I think it will cause problems
on a TFT/LCD monitor. I haven't seen anyway of setting the resolution
from the mapage, only some obscure options for setting height and
scaling.
