http://kotaku.com/384422/which-version-of-gta-iv-should-you-buy-we-com...e-the-p

* PS3 and 360 version are virtually identical.
* The 360 version peaks at higher frame-rates in enclosed areas and
ones with few onscreen objects, but both have the same baseline.
* The 360 version suffers from some more noticeable texture and object
pop-in " The Xbox 360 version can suffer from some very noticeable
texture loading, as things like trees, vehicles and building signs
will regularly pop-in as one tools about town. It can be distracting,
especially during high speed chases".
* The PS3 version requires a 7 minute 3.6 gb install, but this results
in faster loads. There is no option to install on the 360 version.
* Both versions have FSAA, though the Ps3 version has ever so slightly
'muddier' - whatever that means.

Overall they give the edge to the PS3 version,
"If this were a personal decision, I'd have chosen the PlayStation 3
edition, mostly based on my preference for the DualShock controller
and the performance edge. "

Points to remember:
* Although the 360 version does get 2 peices of exclusive DLC,
1. Nobody knows what it is going to contain.
2. It's not free
3. It's not out for several months
4. It has been strongly hinted by Rockstar that other DLC will be
available to all platforms.
* Although the 360 version has the platform specific features like a
Gamer-score and Achievements, both versions have in-gamestats
checking.
* Both versions have online play, however, PSN users dont have to pay
for privilege!

Essentially it boils down to this:

The PS3 version is the superior one, because of the lesser popup and
the faster loading. It may lack the DLC, but the reviews so far
indicate you'll be more than catered for by the main game anyway, and
by the time DLC comes around, you'll be playing other games anyway.
Personally, I couldnt care less about Acheivements. They are a a
pointless way of raising a score that bears no relation to your actual
gaming ability.
So what if you have acheived 100 headshots with a uzi-9 mm? Or if you
fell from 3045 busses? What matters is that the game itself is worth
playing for what the game offers, rather than dick waving scores.
Furthermore, the Ps3 version does not require a yearly subscription
from the host platform maker to play online. Anyone who is buying the
game for the first time along with a new console will have to add a
XBL sub, which is an unlimited cost (per year).

If you own both platforms, - and you do care about the DLC - how about
buying the better ferforming version first (Ps3), then trade it for a
360 version for the DLC later on.

If you dont own either, then get the Ps3 version - you'll have the
better expeirence and dont need to play online for it.
The DLC wont be essential, and will cost you extra anyway.

There, since the abridgement sums up EVERY SINGLE POST you want to say
comparing the PS3 to the 360 as far as games and hardware goes, you no
longer need to type anything new Smelly. So, take a 5 year vacation
from Usenet.

Logic is f$#! up.
I own both a PS3 and 360.
I want the DLC, I enjoy achievements and I like the superior online
service ( that's a fact ) that MS provides. I guess the 360 version is
best for me.

So what do you get to do that you cant do on the PSN version of online
play, on XBOX Live?

Invite friends who arent playing GTAIV to play a game?

That's about it really.

That's not worth $50.

You said this:
Essentially it boils down to this:

What I wrote sums up exactly what you wrote. Why do you flippin' even
bother writing anything? You couldn't even recognize anything better
in a 360 version of a game than a PS3 game if it bit you on the
bottom. I happened to save people YEARS of your posts by abridging
how I did.

Home is out NOW. It is called "Second Life". Oh, the graphics aren't
quite as detailed. It doesn't allow you to import trophies and
whatnot. But once you are on, it has no load time. To do a Blig, one
can say you can already play Home on your PC, so what is the big deal
about Home? It is a bunch of nothing.

Anyhow, this being said, I do think Home is cool, and hope it comes
out sometime.

Yes, because Second Life acts as a hub for PC gamers to meet and chat,
along with play social gaming like Pool, blackjack, bowling and so on,
and Second Life lets you build a flat with the ease of a videogame!
SO THE SAME DUDE!

Oh and Second life is TOTALLY UNSUCCESSFUL! Nobody bothers with it!!!

Home will do for the Playstation what XBOX Live did for the XBOX.

Smelly socks, you are a deluded idiot.

I've also got PS3 and Xbox. PSN is a joke compared to Live, I'm a firm
believer that you get what you pay for - the fact that PSN is free says it
all...

I'm so disillusioned with my PS3 just now, it does nothing but collect dust.
I hadn't even switched it on for months because there was hardly anything
available I wanted to play. Then along came GT prologue - what an utter
disappointment, followed by the big steaming turd that is the Metal Gear
beta (truly awfull). I realy looked forward to both of these titles but the
devs seem to have forgotten that games are supposed to be about fun. After
playing both demos, there is no chance I'll be buying the full versions.
As Sony seem determined to destroy all their AAA franchises, I'm getting
very worried for Wipeout and SOCOM.

Not to mention the running joke that is HOME. It's all very reminsent of
the pack of lies Sony told over PS2's proposed online support. I wouldn't
be at all surprised if HOME never appears - though Sony will never admit to
this and will continue to tease any fanboys stupid enough to fall of it
again.

I used to love playstation but I honestly see no point in owning one.

IGN pretty much concur with them, so they might be a garbage Blog, but
they are telling the truth.

It is a place people spend HOURS in, INSTEAD of using it to launch
games. The better the 3D Avatar world, the less time you spend
elsewhere doing other things, like playing games.

You mean acting as a dashboard to launch games, instead of being a
place to hang out? Live is all about the games and people finding
people to play. It is not about being a place to hang out and
socialize.

Home is cool, particularly as a free thing. It does different things
from Live, which is meant as an interface to get people playing. Odds
are Live uses will be playing more games online than Home users will,
outside of perhaps free games in there. None of this manages to
generate revenue, by the way.

I also will go as far to say that Second Life will continue to remain
a better online world, because of use created content. This content
is what makes Second Life interesting, and likely more interesting
than Home, eventhough Home should be a cool experience on its own
right.

Anyhow, in BLIGSPEAK, one can play "Home" now on the PC, in the form
of Second Life, so what is the big deal? This would be Blig on Home,
if Microsoft decided to release it for the 360, by the way.

It's a matter of whether you prefer higher framerate (at times) and
less anti-aliasing problems or lower occurences of texture pop-ins.
All of these were described by the writer as ever so minor problems.

The writer's "preferenc for the DualShock controller" is irrelevant.

Correction: Nobody knows exactly what they are going to be but we do
know they will be entire episodes of content with about 10 hours of
unique gameplay each and worth $50 million incentive payments from
Microsoft.

> 2. It's not free

Even the article you reference states that if you think you'll want
more GTA IV after you've finished the campaign, you should get the
Xbox 360 version. You started off so well at neutrality and then
jumped right into this subtle attempt at once again putting down the
Xbox 360 version for no other reason than your own personal bias.

> 4. It has been strongly hinted by Rockstar that other DLC will be

If this is true, the Xbox 360 still has exclusive DLC and then shares
what will likely be the smaller bit of DLC (which they *weren't* paid
$50 million to create) that is available to both platforms.

Which the games have always had. If you're only interested in earning
100% in the game, you're all set with the PS3 version. If you actually
do care about Achievements, then you should consider the 360 version.

The PS3 is the ever-so-slightly superior version if lesser pop-up and
faster loading are more important to you than anti-aliasing issues and
pockets of lower framerate.

As everyone has pretty much said, the differences are very minor in
the actual boxed product.

Reviews have actually stated that "you'll be playing other games
anyway?"

They are pointless only if you don't care about them. If you really
don't care, we shouldn't hear you bragging about how Home will have
trophies anymore, yes?

The game should indeed be worth playing on its own. However, if you
like to wave your dick around, which apparently many people do, it's
worth considering the Xbox 360 version.

That is indeed true. The question is how many copies will be sold WITH
new consoles and how many will be sold to people who already own
consoles?

This just confirms your original intent all along.

The real bottom line is this:

If you're a big enough fan of the franchise that you'd be interested
in extra story, content, missions, gameplay, etc. in a few months, buy
the Xbox 360 version.

If occasionally higher framerates and ever so slightly smoother
visuals are more important to you than occasional texture pop-ins and
slightly faster load times, buy the Xbox 360 version.

If you like to wave your dick around by boasting a higher Gamer Score,
buy the Xbox 360 version.

If you like having more people to play with online (unless you prefer
your real-life friends and they all own PS3s), buy the Xbox 360
version.

On the other hand...

If you don't already pay for Xbox Live Gold and don't want to, buy the
PS3 version.

If you prefer to keep your dick in your pants, buy the PS3 version.

If occasional texture pop-ins and slightly faster load times are more
important to you than occasionally higher framerates and ever so
slightly smoother visuals, buy the PS3 version.

Or just flip a coin and choose when you're at the store. You'll be in
good shape either way.

So what do you get to do that you cant do on the PSN version of online
play, on XBOX Live?

Invite friends who arent playing GTAIV to play a game?

That's about it really.

That's not worth $50.

*****************************************************************

XMB is the only thing XBL has over PSN.
Games run online on PSN just as good if not better then XBL and I am not
shelling out money to Sony to play online. XBL is not worth $50 per year.
Especially this past year with all the problems they have had. The sadd part
is the base of their problems appear to be traffic and that is completely
unacceptable when you consider how much money MS is raking in for XBL. Put
some money back into the service so we don't have to have down times or
intermintent problems.
