guild's forums for folk just gearing up new 70s, and a couple of more
experienced players said they liked the look of it too; healer and rogue
ones sound spot on to me so I'm very much using the caster dps one as a
guide for my lock's gear.

I do kinda wonder if the dot side is a little easy, yeah, my lock's just
about at the standard already, after doing only 2 lvl 70 instances and
getting no drops, only quest rewards. But then I think of the shadowpriest
in my guild who signed up to a Kara run with 270ish spelldmg (I was doing
invites that day and politely turned him down; thankfully he didn't take it
badly and fully accepted his gear needed work ) and I realise that 600
as a minimum isn't necessarily so low lol.

Yeah, my shadow priest only has a bit over 600 in the shadow tree.
All other damage is under 600. Not that I'm going to be throwing
smites around though. ; )
But while I've got it that high, I've only got like 6000 life
unbuffed. To gear up anymore I'm pretty sure I'll either need to run
heroics, get exalted with some factions for the quartermaster gear, or
run Kara. Which I suppose in some ways suggests getting to 600
+damage even for a shadow priest isn't that hard, as all my gear is
just from normal instances and quest rewards.

Still, I guess it's a reasonable aim for a Kara run. I filled in the
shadowpriest spot for a Prism guild run and we downed the dude with
the horse and Moroes (though he was a double KO. He died then 5
seconds later the last of our group died) and the comments in the raid
chat was that the group was a bit low on dps and that was with me
being on the top of damage done I believe. Or pretty close to it.

In my limited experience with Kara, CC is vital. DoTs are CC-killers. I
have no problem at all with affliction warlocks in there, but they MUST
be careful with their DoTs.

My lock alt has 560 unbuffed shadow damage but easily made the dot side
because of her 12% crit rate (scored 3.9 or so). As demo lock she misses
with 2.9. Problem is that she's a hybrid, and on our alt-Kara run on Friday
she topped the damage meter. We called it a night after Opera since it was
late and we had done Mag and Gruul on our mains earlier.

I posted a link to your calculator on our guild forum and got some
remarks from a hunter about it.
A marksman hunter has higher attack power compared to a beast master
and there's totally different skills involved in playing them so you
can't just compare them like this.
Something else which isn't taken into account is the kind of
shells/arrows the hunter is using although big differences in dps can
be seen depending on the shells/arrows being used.
Last thing, hunters could start walking around in leather equipment
just to increase crit / attack power and satisfy the calculation but
by doing that they totally gimp their armor.
