I'm reviewing a book on the ways people cheat in WoW and other MMO
games. I'd like to hear from people who actually use such cheats.
I'd like to know why you cheat, and how.
Interested? Please contact me ASAP. Thanks.

The latest Games for Windows has a nice article on cheating, in all its
meanings. I recommend starting there.
The premise is that everybody cheats, but they draw the line in different
places on what constitutes unethical play, or whether they're willing to
play unethically. >> Stay informed about: Journalist seeks WoW cheaters |

It probably depends on exactly what you mean by cheating. For example, if I
stand behind a piece of solid terrain and fire my wand at a character on the
other side, and the blast from the wand travels through the solid terrain, is
that cheating? or is it a bug ("unanticipated feature") in the game? (I
picked this particular case because it happens quite often)
There are some who would say that anything the game allows you to do is by
definition not cheating because the game itself is the definitive set of
rules, and the only way to "cheat" is by modification of the software,
interception of the network packets, etc.
And then there's the whole issue of the difference between "cheating" and
"unethical play". For example, if I pst someone and offer to sell them a
magic goretusk liver for $5G that will turn into a flying epic mount if they
plant it in the Northshire Abbey garden, that may be unethical but it's not
cheating.
(Oh yeah, and I forgot to tell you, it'll be another $5G for this magic
kobold shovel that you need to use to plant that magic goretusk liver)

I just thinking that if I were to tell him how I "cheat" and he uses my
info, makes some money, becomes famous for 15 minutes,... What do I get?
I'm betting... Zip.spit!

Its nice to see journalism hitting new lows on the research front...
Still it takes them 20 years for them to reach the "Can someone help
me with my homework" stage, so still some way for them to fall...

Hiawatha Bray is a legitimate journalist, not a gold seller. I personally
don't like his writing, but that's my opinion. *

Well I hope they don't.
It seems that everything the gold farmers do or use is something that
wow wants to block. and if the legit players get in the way SCREW
THEM. Seems that WOW is so big now give me money and kiss my ass
if you get banned and did nothing wrong spend more money..
So why do they cheat.
My friends have an AA clan and play competative.
One day he was over at a neighbors and their son was playing AA online
and had a hack running. He asked the kid why he felt he should do
that. Well mainly that I can't win without it.
My thoughts on them are one thing.
Winning at all cost is the way to go.. SCREW EVERYONE ELSE is their
motto.

I've always wondered about that... The only explanation I was aware of was
that pst = "psssttt" = the sound you make when whispering. But "please send
tell" makes much more sense.

Would not a book on cheating prompt immediate bug fixes by Blizzard to fix
the cheats? therefore being obsolete shortly after publication?
It only makes sense to me as a psychological text -- why people cheat, how
many people cheat, etc., not as a "how to".
