Does anyone use the Journal item in DP? It keeps track of the most mundane
things and ignores major events. For instance, guess what the most major
thing I did on November 1 is. Don't scroll down too far if you're actually
trying to guess, 'cause the answer is revealed subsequently. Here's what my
Journal says, verbatim:

Started from Galactic HQ.
Elixir was obtained.
Departed from Galactic HQ.

Beat Saturn at Galactic HQ.

Those extra three carriage returns are actually in the Journal by the way.
I don't know why they're there. I don't think I spent that much time
outside their HQ.

Give up yet? Well, you can probably tell from the other things I did there,
but my Journal neglects to mention that I fought Team Galactic's Leader and
released the Three Spirits from their lab. I don't know about you, but that
sounds like something to write home about, as opposed to the occasional
random Pokemon or trainer that gets logged in. I guess some of it is
useful, like which buildings I entered and left or where I flew to, but I
fail to understand what the game thinks is important enough to blog about.
At lot of it seems trivial most of the time.

Ya, I try not to look at it. It sounds like a good idea but because
we can't write what we want in it, it doesn' help me remember to water
the berries, or that I am trying to train a certain poke for a move or
to go get the eggs or anything useful. If it was useful I could write
my shopping list on it and remember to pick up those odds and ends.

I don't think that aspect of the Journal bothers me so much as the fact that
(especially when it pops up [randomly!] at the beginning of a session) the A
button goes BACK in the journal, leading me to go through days of inanity
before I remember I can't get out of the journal until I press B another ten
thousand times.

I think it shows up if you've gone 24 hrs (or maybe a bit longer)
without playing the game.

And I agree that the behavior of the A button is the worst thing for
me as well.

But then, I also found it annoying that the A button is ignored during
the credit crawl after beating the Elite Four.
I accidently discovered during the most recent victory that in Diamond/
Pearl it is the Start button that short circuts the credit scroll.

I've worked my way throught the elite four twice now, with two
different teams. I still am trying to figure out the best team to
use. I'm working my way around the resort area, capturing some of the
unique pokemon there (Weepingbel, Gloom, etc.). I'm still trying to
figure out a team that feels balanced.
