Is 1200 gold the max you can get for items - I know that gold is almost pointless unless you are items, but are there merchants that have a larger gold max? I am sure they have a good reason for these limits, I just have no clue what could be. It is also strange that a merchant will buy..

Oblivion started getting too easy once I got Azura's Star.

>From that point, I used a grand soul gem to enchant my weapon with some
riduculously high fire damage and a 1-second soul trap on strike. With
a free soul for every single fallen enemy, my super enchanted weapon
never runs out of charges. Against multiple enemies, I even get to
recharge my weapon several times --- in mid-battle. My sword-wielding
mage is mowing down monsters left and right like some kind of crazed
samurai.

I think Azura's Star qualifies as one of those game-breaking, uber
powerful, unbalanced items that throws the game's difficulty level
completely off whack.

Then don't use it. You see, this isn't an MMO. Balance isn't the
goal. The story is the goal (or has always been, I'll admit it feels a
bit short this time around). What you might consider too easy others
consider just right. What you would consider balance I would probably
consider frustrating. I play for the story, not for a "challenge" (get
quite enough of THAT IRL).

The game is about choice. You aren't competing with other players, you
aren't forced to use Azura's star, or enchanted weapons, or magic at
all for that matter. Bump up the difficulty slider or use Azura's star
as part of hte main quest. First time around I did that (destroys it),
second time around I kept it. Guess what, it didn't make the game
noticibly easier, it just made it less tedius. Good thing in my
opinion.

You can at higher levels pretty much mow things down like that anyway, and if you lack Azura's Star, you have enough money to buy recharges with ease.

Extremely high levels and good enchanted stuff always have it easy.

As for powerful enchanted items... you think this is bad, you should have played Morrowind. Enchanting is expensive and definitely an endgame thing if you want to do it right, but you can make god items.

I made a ring to be permanently invisible (replace after performing any action to make it work again), an Amulet to levitate anywhere at great speed (works with the above for quick, scenic, and eventually, extremely dull travel), and a staff that could kill any normal person in a single hit, AND stole their soul.

In fact, Oblivion disappointed me, because enchanting wasn't any kind of goal to work towards, and couldn't create anything really useful.

Really? All of my armour is Sigil enchanted and my Sniper bow (Grand
Enchanted) gets constant use.

The higher intelligence and the higher your conjuration skill the less drain
on your magicka
plus there are summons that you need the higher skill levels (expert and
master) to summon.
There are also mods (permanent summons.mod) that address this issue
