Hi Jiggyman,
Since that problem just started happening recently, try a System Restore.

| OK, after installing Windows updates, i returned to my online AOK
| gaming and when i load up a game and the loading screen comes up
| (before the game setup screen), it freezes and a message comes up
| saying, "Age of Empires 2 had encountered an unexpected error". Upon
| seeing this message i test the game with Norton and Windows security
| turned off (firewalls off etc...). I also went into my security
| programs and put AOK on the list of programs to not block. When I
| tested the game again, the same thing happens, the game won't work.
| This problem occured while AOK was still hosted by MSN Zone and still
| happened to me when i tried playing AOK on Gamespy, meaning that it
| isnt Gamespy or the Zone that's the problem. Can someone please help
| me? A list of viable options would be great!
