If I already own a game that's recently been offered through Steam, can I
uninstall and reinstall into my Valve folder to take advantage of auto
updates, file integrity checks, file defragging, etc?

Bought it retail last Christmas. The key is validated online every time I play MP. I was just wondering if I could move it into the steam folder to take advantage of the updates, defragging and file integrity. Maybe that would help with occasional bugs like freezing and lagging. It would have helped if you had mentioned the game before. Of course a third party CD key like that won't work and it won't get updates. COD2 isn’t distributed through Steam.
