Saw, "The Incredibles" on tv, has to be my favorite disney movie of all
time, t's strange they never made a sequal or a tv series out of it;
probably because it was made by Pixar when they were not with Disney.

Commnets:

Superpowers don't seem to be inherited, otherwise Dash and Violet would have
some of the powers of their parents.

The idea of supers going underground is strange, but might be cool in a
Champions campaign, tho how can anyone be sued for stopping someone for
commtting an illegal act; and committing suicide is illegal.

Syndrome ( a disease-like condition) is hardly a suitable name for
superhero.

Having superpowers is inherited. What form they take is
psychological.

Well actually it didn't matter if his case was without merit. It
still started an avalanche of other lawsuits, like the ones from the
people on the train. Even winning lawsuits can be expensive.

I doubt anyone would have quibbled had he actually managed to "save
the day".

I was watching the movie yesterday and that hit me again. People would
know he was really a bad guy as soon as they heard his chosen name.

To take this furtrher:

Having exotics wear ski-masks, hiding in abandoned building, etc, ironically
looking like the very terrorists and criminals they are fighting; that could
be an interesting take for an rpg campaign..

That point could be argued, in most comic books, super-powers are specific
mutations that can be inherited.

I'll agree with that.

There used to be an old short-lived DC comic book series called: "Damage
Control"; were a group of minor super-heros are giving the duties of
cleaning up the mess that the more powerful super-heros make.

I'd disagree with that. At least in Marvel comics, only mutants have
mutations, and they usually just have the "X-Factor" that can give just
about any power. A child of two mutants would be a "mutant" (actually, it
wouldn't, because it would have inherited its parents' mutation) and have
the X-Factor, so it could have any powers. Similar things hapen in the
Wild Card novels. Supers get their powers from so many different sources
that inheritance is pretty up in the air, and IIRC _The Incredibles_
doesn't even explain where its characters get their powers, although some
kind of genetic thing seems likely, what with the kids having powers --
pretty unlikely that the baby got exposed to toxic waste already (or is an
alien or was injected with super soldier serum etc.)

I wasn't talking about most comic books, but rather The Incredibles.
In the Incredibles, superpowers are inherited but the specific powers
you get are an expression of your personality, at least at the moment
you settle on one. That's why the baby can do anything, because he
hasn't really decided who he's going to be yet.

In the first concept of the movie revealed in the DVD extra, Mr
Incredible and Elastigirl have actually dropped out of sight because
supers having children with each other is illegal.

Not entirely true.

In a lot of cases super-powers aren't mutations at all. magic, alien
science etc.

Although comic continuity makes it hard to argue completely

In the cases of mutants as I recall it
Xavier's kid had multiple powers, telekinesis, pyrokinesis some mind
affecting stuff

Magneto's kids
- Quicksilver
- The Scarlett Witch
powers not similar
- apparently Polaris is his daughter with similar but weaker powers

Banshee has Siryn (same powers)
Mystique had Nightcrawler

Scott Summers and Madeline had Cable (none of Scott's powers, I'm not
sure if Madeline had any powers herself except for the ones demons
granted her)

Scott Summers and Jean Grey had Rachel Summers in an alternative
future who (pre-phoenix) had much lesser telekinesis and telepathy
than Jean.

Franklin Richards doesn't have much resemblance to his parents as far
as powers go.

Then there's the planet in the future in The Guardians of the Galaxy
when an originally entirely mutant population ends up with virtually
no mutants (although 1 of them is decended from Wolverine and has
similar powers to him)

In DC it's no clearer

Impulse is an example of inherited powers

No, that Magneto was a robot. Polaris isn't related to Magneto. At
least, not now.

That was changed five years ago.
