This battle is just awful.
As in completely beyond the pale and unfun.
I worked a good bit to be able to get past the first stage and felt
pretty good about my methods and tactics. Then the Slayer Jon is kind
of a nice intermission before the finale.
Which is WRONG.
I don't know how many Breaches and True Sights I'm supposed to
have.(which of course are only useful until after his Spell Immunity
Divination and Abjurations wear off) But I had to cheat in a couple
scrolls of each PLUS the 2nd Pro Magic scroll ,which I squandered on
Kangaxx, just to be where I'm at right now....
With a yet UNINJURED Jon!
Oh sure between his constant castings of PFMW and Improved Mantles I'm
able to hit him once or twice for decent damage, along with some
incidental Cloudkill damage. But that doesn't help when he constantly
teleports away and CONSTANTLY heals up completely. I really really
really hope this is a bug and not a feature.
I fear I'm wrong.
I've read on a forum that people had an easy time with the last
incarnation. One guy said all he did is whack him with Carsomyr and
that pretty much ended it. I don't know how true that is. All I know is
poor Edwin swinging away with the Staff is no Keldorn with The Holy
Avenger.And I have no Paladin.
The worst part is for me is that even if he falls this time (the games
on pause right now), it'll feel totally hollow knowing I cheated in a
little help. Well, the Pro Magic scroll is a lot, but typically I
always have 2 and never use them, and i just happened to use the one on
Kangaxx on a lark. That was before I installed tactics. Sorry I didn't
get to see Tougher Kangaxx.(or maybe not)
I don't know, I stopped having fun. All I can be happy about is working
through the 1st fight with no deaths a few times.
And I DO NOT want to have to uninstall.
Any ideas please? >> Stay informed about: Improved Irenicus |

Thanks for the response. I tried Ruby Ray, but in addition to Spell
Immunity: Divination and Spell Immunity: Abjuration he pretty much is
constantly under Improved Invisibility. So I can't target him until
those wear off.
But even then, as soon as the Ruby Ray or Breach works or the
protections just wear off (can't quite tell wth is happening in this
battle frankly) and I damage him, he immediately Dimension Doors away
and casts freaking Cleric Spells to heal! Eh, he could have just drank
a potion anyway so i suppose the Cleric spells aren't too much of a
cheat.
It's almost for naught now anyway, because as soon as i went back to my
game from earlier, my first action crashed it.
I think it might have been a blessing >> Stay informed about: Improved Irenicus |

Even an unmodified Jon is awful.
I have always felt that the endings are the weakest parts of the BG
games. Why do we have to fight a super-monster with divine powers? In
what way do these "finale" battles make anything more interesting? I
think they don't.
Solve the final quest, then get a victory scene. That's what I was
looking for.

I found both Irenicus and Demogorgon to be fairly simple the first time
around... I'm hoping the 'improved' mods will make the battles more
competitive. I'd like a decent battle where I might have to reload a
few times instead of guaranteed victory first try...
Load up all your buffs, plus some summons, then go fight Irenicus. One
mage consistently casting remove/pierce magic, breach, ruby ray, etc,
the other focusing on offensive spells. Your hasted tanks wailing away
w/ Crom Faeyer and Carosmyr should make short work of him. Make sure
they're protected with Death Ward for those instant
disintegrations/death spells. >> Stay informed about: Improved Irenicus |

Well to respond to my own post I did indeed beat it a few days ago and
I finally am satisfied. I still needed the scrolls of pro magic
unfortunately but needed no extra Breaches ot True Sights I just lasted
long enough and eventually was able to hit him for full damage often
enough that his healing wasn't able to protect him enough. That last
stage was just tedious. I don't know how I'd win the battle with no Pro
magic scroll as I had no characters with any appreciable magic
resistance. I suppose a few more skeleton warriors may have been able
to deflect some of the last irenicus incarnation enough to do
something.
I may have had to cheat in the other scroll of Pro Magic but I'm still
happy I did the fight with no traps or TOB abilities. >> Stay informed about: Improved Irenicus |
