you might not care about it, but besides the usual grinding to level in ANY
Korean MMORPGs, you have to pay extra time (and effort) to train your
skills in RF Online. Your skills (as mundane as your Defence/Shield skill)
will not improve as you level up, instead, you have to use it to raise its
level. Usually that dosen't bother me much, as there are other games that
use such scheme. However, the Skill EXP earned is way out of proportionally
small, resulting you have to spen even more time grinding for these skills
improvement. From what I experiance in the Taiwan Closed Beta to Open Beta,
which is synchronized with the Korean Betas, they remain the same, so my
guess is the absurd amount of time needed to raise a skill remains the same
in the final release. That means, besides the usual grind for level, you
will spend 50% of your game time grinding your skill and 30% mining (ala EVE
Online type, park there and go to sleep, and often wake up and found your
character is dead 10 minutes after you turn off your monitor, so 7 hours 50
minutes are wasted), 19% fighting the Miners' War/Chip War (which is really
fun, if you did spend LOTS and LOTS of time grinding your skill - in this
game skill is everything, level matters very little in war, its only used to
limit your ability to wear uber armors/weapons) and 1% of your time actually
exploring and doing quests.
If you really liked PvP wars, by all means jump right in, the PvP is the
most fun I've experianced (with over 30+ MMORPGs in my Resume), but if you
are more PvE or RP oriented, and absolutely hate grinding and threadmills,
steer clear of this game.
