Not sure. I didn't notice the colour, but I did find that you could
open the doors when the statues were facing them (or facing away,
I can't remember).
If it is a bug, revert to the last savegame before you were captured
and see if it works this time.
(If you've been saving in a single slot, you're probably screwed.
Don't do it again.)
