Post subject: Howling Fjord Horde Quests
Archived from groups: alt>games>warcraft (more info?)

Last night I blew through a bunch of horde quests in Howling Fjord. I
was cleaning up the last of the quests associated with Winterhoof. I
got a quest to go to the top of a mountain and meditate. So I made
the run up there, meditated, then my inner turmoil appeared.
Literally, appeared right in front of me and started fighting me. I
killed it for the quest.

I then got a quest that gave me a worg disguise. When in the
disguise, my run speed was increased by 80%, I felt like a shaman.
Also, it makes most of the local worgs friendly to you. Following
that chain, I finally faced off with a white worg, and halfway through
the fight he turned into a worgen. I think this is great, I already
get to see part of the Arugal quest chain. I kill the worgen, turn in
the quest.... and thats it. No continuation in the chain. No 'wtf
was that?! warlock, go find where these worgen are coming from',
nothing.

I had been picking herbs and finally got my herbalism to 400. Picked
some tiger lily, each giving me 3 failed attempts before success.

Jumped on a flight to New Agamand. Started doing those quests. One
quest sent me to talk to the flight master there. The flight master
puts me on a flight to Dragonblight. Cool, I get a free trip to
another flight point. I land, pick up the FP, and turn in the quest.
In the interest of saving space in my quest log, I did not pick up any
of the quests while I was there, including from the guy I just turned
the quest in to, so I don't know if that chain continues. Flew back
to New Agamand and started working on other quests. One quest had me
gather some drops from mobs just outside town, but also buy something
from a vendor who wanders the road to the west. So I started running
down the road, and I saw the vendor.....'s corpse. Turns out he is
PvP flagged. So I see an area I have another quest for. I do the
quest and start running down the road. The corpse is gone, thats a
good sign. I find the vendor, dead again in a different location. I
work on another quest and travel the road again, again the corpse was
gone, and again he was dead in a different spot. I decide this time
to ride the road till I found him, and a few minutes later I did find
him, alive and well.

But doing that quest opened up a fun quest. I got my own pet
abomination to play with. I had to send him into a plagued vykrul
town, gather up as many vykrul as I could, and explode, insta-gibbing
the vykrul. That was a lot of fun.

I turned in a few more quests, and that was it, no more quests for New
Agamand. A lot of the quests there just seemed to sputter out.

I have Apothecary's Camp and the Kalu'ak village left to quest in.
That will finish off Howling Fjord for me, then it will be back to
Borean Tundra to finish out all the quests there. Not sure where I
will go from there though.

Forgot to also mention, last night was the first time since the
expansion came out that I saw horde in control of Lake Wintergrasp.
But unlike previous world PvP objectives, it now seems to give a
continent wide buff instead of just a zone wide buff. The buff
increased experience gain by 5% and allows collection of some kind of
item, I am guessing similar to the drops collected from Auchindoun
bosses when your faction had control of Bone Wastes, but I didn't look
it up to be sure. But 5% increase to XP gain, definitely worth the
buff for anyone who isn't 80 already, but it then looses half its
usefulness once you hit 80.

As for logical progression, I'm not sure where to go after that.
Dragonblight certainly seems doable, I saw lots of other level 72
players there, but in between Dragonblight and Howling Fjord is
Grizzly Hills. Seems a bit odd to separate the logical progression of
zones like that, but its certainly a possibility, especially since I
was given a free flight there and had already taken the turtle to the
Kalu'ak village there. Of course, Dragonblight also has the Wrathgate
questline, so I might go there just to be able to do that.

Unfortunately, my warlock seems to be allergic to leather, so I can't
wear the gloves. Perhaps though I might consider making a pair of
frostweave gloves and getting them enchanted with +5 herbalism. I
made a pair of netherweave gloves a while back and had them enchanted
with +2 fishing. Not a huge boost but its enough to get me into
fishing in a few places.

Sure you're looking at the right one? Mine says 105 for Howling Fjord
as well. Its different for each zone.

Get the new +5 gathering enchant...give your friendly neighborhood
enchanter a skill point Wink

Also, you can skill up to 425 herbalism on Netherbloom/Mana Thistle/
Nightmare Vine...and no competition!

When you have done 105 quests in howling fjord you will get an
archivement for it. I got it a minute before I entered UT with a pug +
I handed in 2-3 more quests (not UT related) after that. Around 110
quests all i all. Good luck.

Wait, so there is a +5 to gathering? As in 1 enchant gives +5 to
herbalism, skinning, and mining? Or are you talking about the old +5
herbalism, +5 mining, and +5 skinning enchants?

As for the old Outland herbs, taking time out to go gather those
distracts me from my real goal, experiencing the new content. I
played a little over lunch, and got herbalism up to 408. There is
noticeably less competition now that everyone has moved on to other
zones.

I looked at my achievements today during lunch. I finished off the
Apothecary Camp quests and moved down to Kamagua. It says I've
completed 77 quests. That means with Kamagua left, I need 33 more
quests for the achievement. At neutral, they only gave me 2 quests.

Do these quests open up into larger quest chains? Do more quests open
up with them when I hit friendly? Or have I missed a major quest hub
somehow? I started at Vengeance landing, moved to the area just at
the top of the lift, then moved to Winterhoof. While at Winterhoof I
also did the out of the way quests from that dryad you run across
while making the run from Winterhoof to Giant's run. Then I also did
the quests from the quest givers next to Steel Gate. After that I
moved to New Agamand, then just finished Apothecary's camp. Seems I
have made a huge circle around the zone, and the only foray into the
area around Utgarde was when I went to run Utgarde Keep. Is there a
quest hub there I am missing, or is it somewhere else?

Hehe, I chafed at not being able to pick tiger lilies and then remembered
that as preparation for WotLK I had camped the vendor in Ashenvale for the
leatherworking recipe of "herbalist gloves" or some such. They give you a +5
bonus on herbalism, together with the +5 enchant that is a nice +10 buff for
anyone who can wear leather. Dooh. Had my banker send them to my two
herbalists, with 392 and the gloves I got easy pickings and am now at 405 so
my gloves can rest until I find the next level herb which likely won't be
for a while as I have yet a bit to do in the Fjord and all of the Tundra.

It seems that we are at a similar stage, then Smile

Wouldn't Dragonblight be the logical progression levelwise? On the other
hand, I have now turned 72 in Fjord and expect to be at least 74 by the time
I'm done with the Tundra and guess it will be the same for you, so a trip
straight to the Sholazar Basin (sp?) might be possible... Personally, I'll
stick to the "normal" progression in order to be sure that I "cleaned up"
all zones before moving to another one, that will make it easier to come
back and finish all quests at 80 for money.

Another thought, I just hit friendly with that faction you meet
getting off the zepplin, should I head back to Vengeance landing and
see if any new quests opened up for hitting friendly? I know no new
ones opened in New Agamand, as I was there when I hit friendly.

130 for Alliance; Horde is likely different as a lot of Alliance quests
are "talk to the person standing next to the quest giver" type quests,
whereas Horde ones tend to involve more.

Duh. Thanks. I didn't even think of that. I guess over all of Northrend it
will even out but there will certainly be differences between the factions
for each zone.

As Pete pointed out, the numbers for alliance (130) and horde (105) seem to
differ for at least some zones...
