Whoops - I seem to have made a typo - page 7 of the COTA Reference
Manual :

"C:\Matrix Games\Conquest of the Aegean\COTA.EXE" -resolution
1680x1050

so it's a "-" instead of a "/"

Also make sure that your graphics card actually supports 1680x1050
natively.

Hope this helps

I already ran into a problem trying to get it to use 1680x1050
resolution. I selected Match Current Screen Resolution but the game
minimizes onto the task bar and won't maximize onto the screen. I can
get 1280x1024 with a couple clicks on the task bar to get it open.

Can't get that command line to work in Vista. It gives an error that
the file "C:\Matrix Games\Highway to the Reich\HTTR.exe" /resolution
1680x1050 cannot be found. (actually using CotA for HTTR)

Make sure this isn't a vBIOS or firmware issue. I had a terrible time
getting 1440x900 and 1680x1050 widescreen displays working with two
brand-new video cards that explicitly supported - in documentation -
these resolutions.

Very frustrating when you put the video card slider on 1680x1050 and the
screen displays giant, scrolling bits of desktop on a card that thinks
it's getting a buttwad of 1280x1024.

Are you sure that you didn't put it inside the quotes with the filename?
It could give that kind of error.

Nope, not in the quotes and I've been using 1080x1050 res for two years.
I tried creating a shortcut directly to the COTA.exe file bypassing
the menu screen. That let me select screen resolution and it worked
perfectly. I recall issues with the Matrix menu screen in Steel
Panthers World at War too. Since there's no reason to enter the game by
the menu I'll just keep using my direct link.

Spoke too soon. The video played, but skipping the video or letting it
end results in the same unclickable icon on the task bar. Looks like
I'll just have to use a game resolution instead of the screen res.

So the direct link works, going through the menu doesn't. I'll make a
note of that for future reference.

What happens if you try it at another widescreen resolution, such as
1440x900? I'm wondering if it's the raw resolution that's giving the
game trouble, or the aspect ratio.

Now it's working. I applied the /resolution 1680x1050 switch to the
cota.exe shortcut instead of trying to use the switch to the default
desktop shortcut that calls up the menu. It still drops to the task bar
minimized but two or three clicks will get it up to stay. It's all good...

Thanks. Now that you have told me what I need to do I still don't need
to read the manual. Smile

HTTR installs two game links, one with the annoying opening menu and a quick
link, you just have to edit the quick link. Worked perfectly for me when I
set it to 1680x1050 last night. Thanks.

Cheaper than that! I just ordered it at $20 shipped (normal delivery) from
NWS. How could I let it pass at that price? It's harder to justify twice as
much for a download version of COTA when you are as cheap as I am. I guess
I've got another week or so to think about it.
