The latest version of Thunderbird has an option for Gmail. I assume you
still must turn on pop email for that gmail account, but now adding a
gmail account is that much easier. IIRC mozilla.org is hosted on server
space donated by Google, but this might just have been added because gmail
is so popular these days.
Or it could be the beginning of a conspiracy to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!

Well, there is a reason I prefer to keep my email on my computer instead of
on someone elses, who scans it to set up relevant ads to display with it...
So I'm a little paranoid.
From idle curiosity, does Gmail still need an invitation to sign up to it?

I guess you didn't know that you could download your email and keep it on
your computer using gmail for over 4 years now, eh?

Avoid the noid.

I think you don't but if you want I can send you one.

Nope.

No need. I just figure the fact I haven't found that out before dates me
a bit. Come to think of it I never got an invite back in the day
either.

After you sign up, just go to the settings and enable the pop option. On
that page is also a link where it describes how to set up various email
clients to retrieve the mail.
