After watching several episods of "Loonatics Unleashed", I am begining to
realize that running a superhero campaign in the far future would require a
different playing style.
For instance, the Loonatica are basically low level heros but the use of
high tech gadgetry makes them quite formidable. It also makes greater
oppertunities for villians, who may not need to go far to get superpowers.
Also, technology could make detecting and restaining of exotics much easier.
Interesting to note that LU is an example of a world were everybody got
superpowers from the same source, and probably at the same time. >> Stay informed about: Heros of the Future |

Low level? They may not be quite the JLA but they are the X-Men. >> Stay informed about: Heros of the Future |

Or... combine it with your favorite SF setting... Transhuman Supers, Heavy
Metal Supers, Space Super Opera... >> Stay informed about: Heros of the Future |

I once played in a great little PBeM game called "Star Trek: Future
Champions", which combined TNG era Trek with the future of the DC Universe
and used the Champions 5th Ed rules. It was a *lot* of fun. I played the
future version of Captain Atom, being Starfleet officer Captain Adam Justin
Cochrane, grandson of Zefram Cochrane. Apparently killed during the last
Transwarp experiment shortly after the disappearance of Jim Kirk in
"Generations", Cochrane was actually bounced through sub-space into the TNG
era and became a living subspace rift, with powers similar to the original
Captain Atom.
There was a lot of fun stuff, but sadly the campaign foundered just as it
was getting interesting. Apparently at some point we were going to face the
Borg (and the familiar face behind them), but alas... Maybe I should take it
upon myself sometime to resurrect this idea.

It was, and so much fun to play. As a long-time comics nerd and trekkie,
part of the fun was geeking on some of the clever things the GM did with the
background. One idea was that the DC heroes appeared when they first debuted
in the comic books, so that Superman's first appearance was in the 1930's,
as was Batman's, and that they aged in real-time (well, Superman didn't, but
Batman and the mortal heroes did). The way he did the timeline was very
nice, and there was something indefinably cool about having a Vulcan Green
Lantern, and the idea of Starfleet facing the Borg threat with a shipful of
superhumans. (one implication was that Q had started the new "age of heroes"
to compensate for throwing the Enterprise across the galaxy and letting the
Borg know we exist).
